I am compassionate, confident, and a little nerdy.

My Self-Summary

I love all sorts of things from music (I was a DJ for the campus radio station in grad school) to backpacking (I'm trying to figure out how to make this happen more in LA) to dancing (both in clubs and in ballet classes). I have a 2-year-old German Shorthaired Pointer named Ava who goes on backpacking trips with me, but barks at me when I dance. If I had more time and money, I would travel the world. Instead, it's going to have to happen a bit more slowly.

I was born in Connecticut, grew up in Kansas City with summers in New England, went to undergrad in Nashville, lived in Austin, then Oregon, and now LA. Just covering the bases, I guess.

What I’m doing with my life

I guess this is the part where you talk about your job? I am a psychology intern at UCLA. I work with adolescents with eating disorders primarily, although my training is pretty broad. I've recently decided that if I weren't doing that, my alternative dream job is to be an "audio architect" at Muzak. They pick the music that plays at stores. Basically, I just like the idea of being paid to listen to music and make playlists.

Anyway, I don't really think my career is necessarily "what I'm doing with my life" since I hope my life is much more than a career. I'm doing lots of things with my life. I hope I keep doing lots of things... My grandma recently turned 92, and she can almost beat me up the stairs. That's my goal. To be active and happy at age 92.

I’m really good at

remembering things. This leads to a lot of story-telling because it just seems like memories shouldn't be in my head for no reason.

The first things people usually notice about me

I'm pretty sure it would be something visual if it were the "first" thing people notice. You can see my pictures, so you can probably form your own idea of what is noticeable...

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

Music I have listened to in the last year or so: The Bird & The Bee, Coconut Records, Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros, Girl Talk, Great Northern, Handsome Furs, Horse Feathers, Passion Pit, School of Seven Bells, Sea Wolf, Tegan & Sara, TV on the Radio, Wir Sind Helden, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, and others...

Music I will probably always be listening to: Andrew Bird, Arcade Fire, Band of Horses, Beck, Blind Pilot, Broken Social Scene, David Bowie, Feist, Fiona Apple, Hot Chip, Imogen Heap, Junior Boys, Michael Jackson, Neutral Milk Hotel, The New Pornographers, Of Montreal, Radiohead, Regina Spektor, Stevie Wonder, Talking Heads, Tom Waits

Movies: Waiting for Guffman, I Heart Huckabees, The Fall, Death at a Funeral, American Beauty, Best in Show, Labyrinth, Top Gun, Empire Records, The Breakfast Club, The Royal Tenenbaums, The Darjeeling Limited, Helvetica (I'm serious...)

Books: The Poisonwood Bible, The Count of Monte Cristo, Tenant of Wildfell Hall, A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius, Waiting for Godot, The Bean Trees, Me Talk Pretty One Day, A Walk in the Woods

On a typical Friday night I am

Either going out with friends to concerts or parties or staying in and watching a movie curled up on the couch.
