I am punctual, prim, and proper.

My Self-Summary

Well, I'm mostly just punctual. I pedal nearly everywhere I go. 24 hour news channels ruin everything. I find the sound of the neighbors' landline quaint and endearing. They must cook bacon four times a week. Our house occasionally smells like a diner or a Motel 6. Usually it smells just fine.

Sunday is project day. My favorite day. Farmer's market, make some soap or brew some beer, sweep the floors, change the lightbulbs, cook some cabbage pie. Doesn't get any better than that.

I work for a large environmental organization doing very mundane officey things peppered with some extraordinary activisty things. I am very lucky.

While global warming certainly occupies a lot of my professional concern, I am passively passionate about eliminating pennies and daylight savings time.

It never hurts to have a few recreational arch-nemeses.

What I’m doing with my life

I am very busy with stuff I want to do. Not very busy with things I have to do. Sure, I end up in front of a messy spreadsheet every now and again, but the 40 hours a week I spend at the office tend to be pretty satisfying.

I am not watering my plants enough.

I value my ability to produce things. Recently, I've become a decent brewer of beer. I do a lot of cooking, pickling, canning. This summer I am learning to make soap. I've dabbled in farming and will likely someday have some goats and a big garden.

I’m really good at

Pioneering. Traveling. Digging. Adapting.

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

Books: McPhee, Encounters with the Archdruid; Toole, Confederacy of Dunces; Bulgakov, Master and Margarita; La Invencion de Morel; Tom Robbins; Walkier Percy, The Moviegoer; and most Murakami is damn good recreational reading. The Yellow Arrow, La Invencion de Morel.

Mountain Goats, M. Ward, Old 97s, Okkervil river, Wilco, Silver Jews, Neko Case, Cat Power, Neutral Milk Hotel, David Byrne, Gogol Bordello, Of Montreal.

I like to cook. Nuts to recipes, I say. Sometimes that approach makes baking a little tricky.

Twin Peaks and NewsRadio are best tv shows of all time. 30 Rock, Office, Mad Men, the stuff I can get free on the internet.

I like beer. Good beer. North Coast Old Rasputin Imperial Stout, an Allagash whatever, Bells brown.

The six things I could never do without

Pals, pedals, reading material, fermentation. That's only four because I am a pretty low maintenance gal.

I spend a lot of time thinking about

What is amazing about this world, and [sigh] what has gone so very wrong, and wait, about how we can make things better.

On a typical Friday night I am

Out at a friend's house or a bar, or picnicking in the summer.
