Renaissance Revival?
Feb 20, 2009
I'm a big fan of history, but I've got to wonder sometimes, as I
peruse some of the profiles here, or as I view people who are in my
area, just how have we (collectively speaking) gotten so big? Is
this the age of the Renaissance Revival where big is better, where
"large and in charge" actually means something? All it means to me
is that people have lost ALL credibility when it comes to how one
should live life.
I live a very healthy lifestyle; I eat healthy, enjoy rigorous exercise 3-5 times a week, work a strenuous job, and I have to ask myself how 4 out of 5 people I come across appear the type who would gasp for breath after 2 flights of stairs and would scoff at the idea of taking a day hike through nature; whose concept of a bicycle ride is something they have long forgotten since childhood.
There's a book out called "Supersize Me", (and a movie, I think), which examines how this phenomenon has occured in this Country over the past couple decades, and the net result is that some people see their families/friends getting bigger so "it must be ok or acceptable". Hmmm.. I guess if your'e big, then it is. Amazingly, there's some common denominator, an applicable coefficient, that most of these people are also "conservative" in thought. I find that simultaneously amusing and invidious.
Maybe we'll see a sharp decline since Obama's taken office, but.... I DOUBT IT!! It appears those who relished in the "conservative" reign over the past decade are still thinking they're in charge. Hmmmph.
And you can't undo BIG.... overnight. It's actually much deeper than that, BIG is just the symptom for a thinking problem, in that it's ok to overindulge in food because it's comforting and because you can find enough BIG girls and BIG boys to find comfort with.
Long live the BUFFET..... lol
Ok, I know...I ranted.... and I'll get some nasty emails from someone gasping for breath as they shove ice cream and brownies down their chutes, vieing for an opprtunity to elaborate how they're still healthy at 360 lbs and how "superficial" I am for speaking my mind; that it's what's inside a person that counts, while they indulge themselves in the denial that their over-extended eating habits and squazillionth trip to the buffet aren't rooted in a more severe mental obsessions over food.
Dessert anyone?

What's amazing to witness is how close people are, in a big city,
and yet be so far removed. We pass like ships in the night,
sometimes, and if we would just stop and see all that's around us,
..... we would live so much happier.
