I am aesthetic, inquisitive, and eclectic.
My Self-Summary
I started out as a
graphic designer originally
from
Chattanooga, TN (what I still
consider my home town), but lately I've been a little bit of
everywhere. But now I'm a school teacher. I somehow ended up
working for a small private boarding school doing everything from
computer networking to tutoring freshman science. *gulp* It's been
crazy but where better to try out my multiple hats?
I love being
creative in many different ways. I've
even been known to enjoy
cooking, sewing, etc. Yes, I admit I can
be domestic. ;) However, I also like
swords,
chainmaille,
computers, and other more male-typical
things. Make no mistake, I'm definitely a geek. I love my
Apple Powerbook,
iPhone,
computer graphics,
foreign films,
art,
and other things in that vein. I enjoy sappy
chick flicks more often than not.
And yes, I also like
cuddling.
Be forewarned that although I can easily be businesslike when
necessary, I lean more towards the
silly side. I'm often more of a
quirky yet
sensitive goofball. I've been
told those qualities are oddly endearing, but I not so sure about
that.
I'm easily found as pixeldrift on myspace and livejournal. Sadly,
I've not been very current with my updates lately. I'd also link to
my design portfolio, but by server has been down and I haven't had
a chance to relocate hosting and update the DNS. Hmmm, must correct
that.

What I’m doing with my life
After spending six years working for the art school I studied doing
everything from lab assistant and office manager to
motion graphics
and
video
editing, it was time to cut the apron strings and try life in
the "real world". I thought I might have what it takes to finally
make the dive into
freelancing. I loved the flexibility
of working for myself, but don't like the part of spending more
time looking for work than doing the work. I've worked in the
creative department at
Parelli Natural Horsemanship, done
freelance in
Phoenix, and now I'm in Nowhere, TX. I loved the idea of being able
to use my creative and people skills in a collaborative
environment.
It wasn't my plan to be a teacher, it just kind of happened. I was
surprised to find out that I'm fairly good at it. Well, at least
good at explaining things and helping students understand concepts
in a really simple way. I'm not so good at the classroom management
stuff and really hate record keeping. Can't I just teach stuff and
leave it at that? Do we really need grades? :)
I eventually plan to finish one of my degrees sometime this
century, but I'm still deciding what one. I've taken a good chunk
of quite a few under the arts category, but not enough of any one
to actually graduate just yet. Yep, I was taking the scenic route
through college, taking classes that would help me grow and be
useful in my career instead of just sticking to what the diplomas
required. Grr.
Computer Science,
3D animation,
Film... tried it all. I think I'm one
credit shy of an AS in
Graphic Design though, so maybe I
should start there... Feels kind of anti-climactic to go back to
school once you've been in the professional industry, doesn't it?
I'd love to finish with Film Postproduction and get more into
visual effects and compositing, but who knows where life may lead.
I could end up working on a horse ranch for all I know. I take it
as it comes.

I’m really good at
Wouldn't you like to know? ;) I tend to be skilled at
computers (I have 2
Mac laptops but also
use
Linux and
Windows (when I have to)). I also seem to be pretty good at
design,
writing,
cooking, and being
creative in general. I like to
participate in
improv drama and other types of theater. And of
course
Photoshop
and any other application in that realm. For the most part, there
tends to be a correlation between things I enjoy and my proficiency
at them.
Apparently I'm also good at shopping. Girls will take me with them
to help pick outfits.
The first things people usually notice about me
Usually my hair. It's longer and better kept than most guys (and
many girls) are willing to bother with. Sometimes I can come across
as a touch esoteric on certain topics when I get on a roll. Just
ignore it, I won't be offended if you pull a smile-and-nod.
My favorite books, movies, music, and food
(BOOKS) I haven't digested any fiction for quite a while,
unfortunately. Lately most of my reading has been non-fiction or
industry related books. Usually topics on design, film, art,
special
effects,
spirituality, and the
Bible. Most recently I
re-read Ender's Game, if that counts. iWoz is also a great
book.
(MOVIES) A few movies in no particular order: Shawshank Redemption,
Gladiator, Amelie, Asoka, Casablanca, Fifth Element, Pitch Black,
LOTR, Jason and the Argonauts, Hero, Love Actually, The
Incredibles, The Great Escape, Iron Giant, Green Mile, City of Lost
Children, U-571, Kuch Naa Kaho, October Sky.
Foreign films,
Independent films,
Bollywood,
Animation, etc.
You get the idea.
(TV) Discovery Channel stuff like Junkyard Wars, Mythbusters, etc.
Firefly, Battlestar Galactica, Big Bang Theory, Daria, etc
(MUSIC) I'm quite eclectic. I have Patsy Cline next to Everclear on
my playlist. Moxy Fruvous, Blue Man Group, Trans Siberian
Orchestra. I like Classical, Oldies, Techno, Celtic, Film Scores,
etc. Hans Zimmer is awesome. Lately I've had Katy Perry stuck in my
head (help!)
(FOODS) Italian, Indian, Mexican. I love
cooking meals on my own, like
lemon-garlic sauteed pierogies or al dente fettucini with homemade
creamy sundried tomato and basil pesto... Mmm. Ehem, anyway! I'm
vegetarian and
avoid fast food as well, except subs. Subway, Blimpie, Quiznos, I'm
not exclusive. I'm not fully vegan just yet because I still haven't
been able to give up cheese, even though I rarely use eggs and
milk. Oh well.
The six things I could never do without
Ignoring the obvious things necessary for sustaining human
life...
PowerBook. iPhone. Broadband. A vehicle of some sort (not
particularly attached to this old LeSabre (hey, it was free)).
Glasses (remind me to update my prescription soon, the lenses are a
mess (perhaps I'll go back to contacts? (and yes these are nested
parentheticals (got a problem with that? (Ah, and self-referential.
Now how to make it truly recursive?)))) Oh yes, and a hairbrush.
On a typical Friday night I am
Exhausted from a week of teaching students who don't wish to learn
and trying to squeeze just a bit more life out of computers that
should have been replaced years ago.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit here
This answer will self-destruct as soon is it is read. At present,
the answer exists in a quantum state, but as soon as it is
observed, it ceases to be private and therefore is no longer the
answer. Hmmm, shades of Schrödinger?
Meow.
(props to unpaved
for pointing out my type-o)
Also, I am physically incapable of wrinkling my nose.
You should message me if
You enjoy intelligent conversation and are capable of conducting
one. Please know the difference between are/our, your/you're,
to/too/two, their/there/they're. Please don't "hit me up" or give
me a "hollah". I don't mean to sound elitist or exclusive, it's
just that folks who tend to talk that way would probably find me
boring. Of course, if you've made it this far I sincerely doubt you
would fall into one of the aforementioned categories.
I'm actually a fairly open and extremely approachable person. I
love interacting with other people, so feel free to talk to me. Oh
yes, feel free to disregard my occasionally psuedo-intellectual
writing style. It pops up now and then when I'm bored, but I assure
you I'm not really that pretentious. :)
