My self-summary
I was born in Philadelphia (yes, in the actual city, not the suburbs) and went to high school on the Main Line. After stops at super fancy universities in Boston and England, I've been living and working in Washington since the end of 2009. Was a little skeptical of the place when I moved down here, like everyone, I moved down here for a job not necessarily because I thought DC was kickass, but the longer I've been here the more I enjoy it.

Like most people on this site, and most people in DC, I work a lot, keep myself really busy, have a wide variety of interests, and am just a little towards the sarcastic side of the spectrum. Also I generally try not to take myself too seriously. I mean, let's be honest: if you're on OKC you're probably in a position to judge others too harshly, right?
What I’m doing with my life
Like seemingly half of the people who live in DC, I work for a giant evil management consulting company. It's given me a much better understanding of how the government usually functions (hint: not very well!), it pays the rent and it usually keeps me on my toes. Outside of that I keep myself sharp by writing a lot on my area of expertise, Russia, for a bunch of magazines and websites.
I’m really good at
Writing proposals, writing editorials, writing research papers, writing magazine articles, writing online dating profiles, writing sarcastic tweets, and writing in general. And PowerPoint. I'm also pretty good at that.
The first things people usually notice about me
More often than not, I am not the tallest person in a room. Also, I am sometimes loud.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Music: VanMorrison, Daft Punk, various kinds of awesome techno
TV: It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, the League, Justified, Archer, Game of Thrones, The Wire, Dexter
Books: The Death of Ivan Illych, Goodbye To All That, Freedom, Trotsky
The six things I could never do without
NFL (Eagles, when they're not horrendous)
Indian food
Wheat beer
The Financial Times
My niece and nephews
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Russian economics, Russian health, Russian politics, and America's policies towards Russia (detecting a pattern?). I also spend a lot of time thinking about the more mundane questions of life in DC such as "why is my rent so high?" and "how can the Metro suck this much?"
On a typical Friday night I am
Everyone seems to just list every possible thing that they might do. I'll strike an original note and say "probably out drinking with friends"
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
My high school moved to a new location about 20 miles away after I graduated, which makes reunions even more awkward than usual

You're driven but you're not totally enamored with yourself. People in DC are clever, ambitious, and demanding, and that's great. But there are a lot of folks in town who are jut a little too enamored of themselves.

Or, failing that, if you just really love The Wire. It's awesome
