Music is absolutely the most important thing in my life. I've played the violin since I was five (then the clarinet and electric guitar later, amongst other non-serious instruments), attended a specialist music school on Saturdays and was involved in far too many jazz/classical ensembles before university. I define myself primarily as an (extreme) metalhead, although if you have little knowledge about the genre you'll be jumping to false conclusions about this. Suffice it to say that I don't listen to stuff like System of a Down, Slipknot, etc.. I also enjoy 80s post-punk/coldwave/synthpop, EBM and pretty much anything else you can think of.
Book-wise I'm a huge science fiction fanatic ('hard', 'soft' and, yeah, space opera as a guilty pleasure) and especially enjoy a somewhat experimental and personal writing style like that of Brian Aldiss, my favourite author. Recently I've been getting into Kafka, Borges, etc. and would love some more recommendations!
I'm not much of a film-watcher and have a rather narrow range of preferences (art house-y, dystopian, atmospheric, psychological horror, science fiction... or stuff like Conan the Barbarian because YES). Star Wars was pretty much my life from 12-15 and I'm not ashamed of this. Having grown up without a TV, the only shows I'm really into are Star Trek (TOS/TNG), Blakes 7 and (classic) Doctor Who, although I will watch and enjoy selected anime if prompted. I just don't really like the idea of spending a lot of time watching anything when I could be reading or listening to music!
