I am independent, curious, and competitive.

My Self-Summary

I have no idea what a "self-summary" is supposed to look like.

Should I discuss my personality? Outgoing. Alacritous. Loud, and often lacking a filter or anything resembling an internal monologue. Confident. Random. Sarcastic tending toward deadpan. Fiercely loyal to my friends. Sick and tired of people who think that name-calling is a substitution for a real argument. On a related note, I love arguments. A devil's advocate. It goes on, but it's easier to show than to tell.

Should I discuss what am I looking to get out this? A new friend. A partner in crime. Something more serious. Something more ephermeral. Truth is I'm open for anything.

I ended up with a profile after my friend got me all liquored up and made me take the personality test they have. I didn't want to be redundant, so I did all the stuff below first. What remains to be said?

What I’m doing with my life

I finished graduate school last December and have been working in Manhattan as an engineer since then. I want to eventually get into green engineering (the building side). I also freelance in product design when the gigs come along (a bit on the scarce side recently).

So what do I do when I'm not working? I run frequently, read voraciously, watch Netflix (quasi)religiously; I enjoy finding new dive bars to frequent or going upstate or to New England to hike/ski/drink in the woods; I'm trying to relearn the instruments I stopped studying in a somewhat shortsighted act of adolescent rebellion and tend to talk a lot about how nice my apartment will be once I actually furnish it.

I’m really good at

keeping things in perspective, keeping secrets, conversation, making any sauce that involves a roux, toasts, heights, pillow forts, story-telling, non sequiturs, sarcasm, and fixing things (both objects and drinks).

Also, omelets.

The first things people usually notice about me

is something you should probably find out from these so-called "people." Although they always seem to be lying about my hunchback.

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

Books: Anything by FX Toole, Vonnegut or Alighieri. Currently reading "Translation" by Brian Friel and trying to read my way through Time's 100 Greatest English-Language Novels.

Music: Raised on old school punk and Springsteen. Recently been Gogol Bordello, Kings of Leon, MNSS, the Decemberists, the Fratellis, the Frames, Heartless Bastards. Favorite for the last couple of years has been the Black Keys.

Movies: Raging Bull, Easy Rider, Serenity, a smattering of Tarantino and Kurosawa, and Metropolis. Dirty pleasure: The Warriors.

Food:I've been having too much fun teaching myself to cook to have a favorite, but if I was forced to at gunpoint I'd go with a classic: a really melty grilled cheese sandwich.

The six things I could never do without

Opportunities for mischief.
Breakfast sandwiches.
Adrenaline.
Sunset beers on the fire escape.
Snow.
That feeling you get when you freak out and think you overslept for work only to realize it's Sunday morning.

I spend a lot of time thinking about

just suddenly dropping everything and moving to Oregon, or Edinburgh, or just living out in the woods for a few years.

On a typical Friday night I am

out with friends seeking fame, fortune and adventure. Or failing that, some live music and something to drink.

You should message me if

you like to make trouble, can hold your own conversationally, are not opposed to whiskey, and actually are willing to transition from witty online banter to hanging out in person.
