I am fugly, shallow, and pointless.

My Self-Summary

i used to be laid back. that was when i was living in california. now that i'm in new york, i've become more foul-mouthed and sarcastic. some would describe it as being edgy, but i think edgy is just a euphemism for douche bag. do people adopt the personality of the city they live in? perhaps. now that i've scared you all away, let me say that i'm really a pretty nice guy. i love to cook (when time allows!), i love to eat (anytime), i love to grocery shop at fairway uptown (on weekends), and i love to ride my bike (when the weather is good). independent and foreign films tickle my fancy... cube, eat drink man woman, and amelie come to mind. but i do enjoy good old action flicks like rambo 2 or ultra-retarded comedies like kung pow.

What I’m doing with my life

just finished a phd. now working towards another set of initials after my name... real job coming in 2010.

I’m really good at

i make an awesome flan. i am also renowned for chocolate cupcakes. i am rather adept at consuming unhealthy amounts of butter.

The first things people usually notice about me

my bottomless stomach

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

(a) blindness, by jose saramago; the house of god, by samuel shem, a very dark and outrageously hilarious book about doctors; life of pi, a well-crafted and very imaginative adventure/bildungsroman; the simarillion, the richly detailed creation myth of middle earth; and lately a bunch of nonfiction, including three cups of tea, genome, jarhead, and the medical detectives (b) coraline (what a gorgeous, gorgeous, gorgeous piece of animation! nice story too.);being john malkovich; napoleon dynamite; eat drink man woman; rambo 2; lotr trilogy (c) bach; barber; copland; hans zimmer; hem; rammstein; 2pac; evanescence (d) mom's cooking; ribeye steak medium rare; nabeyaki udon; beef pho; chinese beef soup noodles; pesto; simply broiled rainbow trout; red snapper burrito; roasted marrow on toast with parsley salad, moules frites (+beer); bacalao in all forms; lest you think i'm a pure carnivore, i also enjoy a wide assortment of veggies, especially green leafy stuff, and possess an odd penchant for raw whole radishes.

The six things I could never do without

prime numbers, brown butter, morcilla, your ad here, brick breaker, that voice in my head

I spend a lot of time thinking about

... how best to combine bacon with other foodstuffs.

The most private thing I’m willing to admit here

i am planning to construct a "bacon explosion" sometime this summer. don't know what it is? google it.

You should message me if

... you think you're good at scrabble. i will fucking obliterate you in scrabble.
