I am Kind, Gentle, and Loyal.

My Self-Summary

I've traveled enough to take very little for granted. Like traffic signals, streets, clean water, etc. I've been described as an urban peasant, or urban primitive. My living conditions are humble, but I'm very happy being able to cook good meals for myself and others and having all the comforts I need. I also have suits and a tux from previous lives which I fit into if the need arises. People have told me I clean up pretty nicely.

My last job was a craftsman in the wood shop of a pipe organ company. I did that for 3 years and was laid off in January. I want my next job to eventually have something to do with what I see as an emerging bicycle culture. I love bicycles, and believe they have a lot of potential. I look forward to the day when Americans don't see a bicycle as a toy but rather as a viable means of transportation.

I've done a lot of different things in the past with a wide range of incomes. When I had the means I've traveled. I've taken extended trips to Europe, Asia, and some wild parts of North America. For now I have to stay close to home, but I have a lot of memories to enjoy, and I have no regrets.

I'm a Pagan/Wiccan, and am somewhat serious about it though you couldn't tell by looking at me or talking to me. Most people assume I'm an Atheist, but it's more complicated than that. You needn't be involved, just tolerant.

I like to fly fish in the warm weather and winter camp in the cold. I also like back country skiing and of course, cycling.

I'm close to my mother and sister and travel to Wisconsin fairly often to visit them. I've read that this is because my moon is in Cancer, but need to do more research about that.

I like photography (the film kind) and once traveled to YellowStone to photograph the wolf re-introduction. That was a peak experience for me being in the back country, not on the top of the food chain, and enjoying the expance of nature.

I also studied Chinese brush calligraphy a few years back but had to stop.

What I’m doing with my life

Enjoying the extra free time that comes with not having regular employment. Getting my place ready for the winter, and helping my family out.

I’m really good at

listening, fixing things, especially cars, and cooking a certain select group of dishes for myself and others

The first things people usually notice about me

Maybe my eyes? Sort of green. Someone told me that long ago.

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

I like to read a lot and lately have been enjoying Kurt Wallander, Kathy Reichs, and Larson Steig.

I like a lot of different styles of music. My favorites are Joni Mitchel, Richard Thompson, Miles Davis, Stephan Grappelli, Faithe Pillow. I've come to appreciate more urban styles. My old favorites are Arrested Development, Grand Master Flash, and Public Enemy. I recently discovered IdleWood in the form of Andre 6000 and really enjoy his music.
I like vintage audio equipment and think it sounds better, but maybe I'm just being grouchy.

Some of my favorite films have been;

Blade Runner, Breaking Away, The Thin Man. Also;

Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter...... and Spring. 2003 Directed by Ki-duk Kim This won 11 awards.

Zatiochi: The Blind Swordsman. Directed by Takeshi Kitano There are more than one version of this. You must see the 2003 version.

Golden Door Directed by Emanuele Crialese I found this by accident. I thought it was a Martin Scorsese, but he just introduces it. I still think it's excellent. It won an award at Venice in 2006.

I'm sure there are more, but I'll have to add to this later.

Food.

I love making thick soups in a pressure cooker. I also have a great recipe for a pasta with olives dish that people rave about. I make a good home made pizza, making my own dough, and I do a good Pad Tai. I have a few other dishes, but am still working on them. They're not ready for prime time yet. The point is I love cooking for people and I like being motivated to keep my place tidy for visits.

The six things I could never do without

That's putting rather strongly. I have been involved with internal Chinese martial arts for close to 15 years. I am close to my teachers and a few classmates, and do not want to stop practicing that. I train 6 to 8 hours per week. There's also a social aspect to it (Dim Sum on Sundays)

I appreciate being able to see my family whenever I want and help them in any way I can.

I spend a lot of time thinking about

How can we, as a society, get ourselves out of this mess we're in.

On a typical Friday night I am

Talking with family, visiting with friends, cooking, or kicking back to read or watch a video with a martini.

The most private thing I’m willing to admit here

I haven't dated anyone in about 6 years.

You should message me if

you've gotten this far and are still reading, you should definitely message me!!
