I am clever, willful, and exuberant.
My Self-Summary
Summaries are hard. I'm a
nerd who loves nerds. I enjoy
geekery,
politics and
debate. I
work a lot and I wish I could work more. I
love spending time around people; mostly I like to entertain (that
is to say, I like to host guests at my house). I enjoy cooking for
others though most of my recipes serve fourteen or so people.
I tend to speak my mind and more than willing to stand up for what
I believe in. I consider myself to be
open minded, grounded and easy to
get along with as long as you don't take things too seriously. I
editorialize
a lot, make
sarcastic comments and observations
about most situations - especially about myself; I speak, you might
notice, in parentheticals.
I'm an avid
blogger and so I tend to talk about my
opinions more
than I talk about myself, which puts me at a disadvantage in
writing this summary.
I love getting to know new people,
learning about them, their lives and
their quirks. I am generally
inquisitive and am always doing
whatever I can to soak up information when the opportunity presents
itself. I don't ever want to stop learning so I read constantly;
finding a new and interesting book will make my week.
What I’m doing with my life
Currently my time is divided amongst my jobs and home-life which
are inextricably interwoven. I work in the home as a live-in care
provider for a retired veteran who I met years ago when we worked
together. I take care of the house (cleaning, cooking, maintenance)
and we get along famously. Additionally I do freelance work as a
web design, layout artist and proofreader. I also write for the
local paper.
I work outside the home part-time in a grocery store as a shelf
stocker (working nights); I originally took this job for the
exercise but have since become attached to working in retail
(there's something wrong with me, to be sure).
I’m really good at
I would say that I am very good at speaking, and writing and have
exceptional grammar and a strong vocabulary. Perhaps that's a
little snobbish to say, but it's true.
I am also good at learning new skills and soaking up information. I
am an expert debater, a very adept researcher and a wholly
inquisitive person.
The first things people usually notice about me
The first thing that people probably notice about me is my very
blue eyes, and the hats that I am perpetually wearing.
And I'm tall.
My favorite books, movies, music, and food
When it comes to music I can pretty much listen to whatever is
playing. The only thing that makes me dislike a song is its lyrics,
not the genre.
I enjoy food preparation of all sorts, but I enjoy
pasta and
Italian food a great deal. I am not
a vegetarian, but pasta gives one the option to create vegetarian
dishes, which I enjoy a great deal because eating meat is something
about which I feel a great deal of guilt.
I can find enjoyment in almost any movie - with the exception of
movies which depict raw, realistic suffering (horror-type movies).
I can even manage those movies if I have the right shoulder to bury
my eyes in; I went with a friend to see SAW III in the theatre and
made it, oh, about twelve minutes in to the film before I had to
leave. I don't really know what I was thinking.
I love to read.
Non-fiction more than fiction, but
I will read either if the option presents itself. My favourite
fiction, strangely enough, are rather elementary books that I read
in school. They're great stories that are, for me, timeless and
evoke memories of school and learning as well as the stories
themselves. I love Shakespeare and enjoy reading his plays as well.
Non-fiction, however, really is my passion. I find it hard to pass
up a book on a topic about which I know little or nothing. Science,
history, art, geography, any or all of them.
The six things I could never do without
The Internet (computer inferred), friends, family, books, warm
clothes and soap.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Everything. I enjoy pondering, thinking, brainstorming. It's fun.
On a typical Friday night I am
At home, watching
YouTube videos, blogging and probably
checking this site.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit here
You should message me if
...you know why a T-Shirt with "there's no place like 127.0.0.1" on
it is funny.
...you think that in 2009 it's very sad that we still need to have
directions on the back of shampoo bottles.
...you're interested. :)
