I am smart, inquisitive, and fairly responsible.

My Self-Summary

I am a librarian, and, while all knowledge is useful, I figure that knowing yourself is vital. I have been around the block a few times, and that's given me a pretty good sense of who I am and what I need out of life. I enjoy reading (comics to Proust), watching movies (lots of foreign stuff, but I'll try most things), and finding new music (although I don't go to shows often). I like cooking, eating, and discussing food. I walk most places, and I have gone to the gym regularly, but I am not really athletic. I figure you have to try everything on the plate a few times, because that's how you find your favorite things.

What I’m doing with my life

Like I said, I'm a librarian. An academic science librarian, should you care for specifics. I came to the profession after working in/running an independent bookstore for about a decade, and I like the work a lot. It's a good blend of hard thinking, helping people, messing with technology, and problem solving. I've been living in Providence for a few years, but I am still looking for people to help me explore the area. I am looking for a serious relationship, but casual acquaintances and friends are also welcome.

I’m really good at

Thinking about things, finding stuff out, learning new things, rembering odd things at odd moments.

The first things people usually notice about me

My sense of humor. My loud voice.

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

a) stuff by John Crowley, Haruki Murakami, and Jeffrey Steingarten always please. Hellboy is a great comic, but the Amazing Screw-On Head is better. I used to read a lot of science fiction but the last five or so years I have been reading more non-fiction. I'm apart of an on-line book club that has tackled Remembrance of Things Past, The Tale of Genji, and The Belly of Parisin the last couple years, and that's been fun, but my tastes are all over the map.

b) way too many to list. Lately, I've been thinking a lot about Trouble in Paradise. Only a couple of years after sound was introduced, and the director is drunk with it! Versus is the best Japanese zombie movie ever, Diva might be the best thriller, and I've been astonished by a load of Korean films I have seen in the last couple years. I've been watching a lot of documentaries, too -- Grizzly Man, , An Inconvenient Truth, and Super Size Me have all been worth the time.

c) again, too many. But Arcade Fire, SION, Hedningarna, and, lately, Wolf Parade are all on fairly heavy rotation.

d) Enough with the favorites! I like French, German, Ethiopian, Chinese,Mexican, Japanese, and Indian food a lot. I cook a fair amount of Indian, Mexican, and Japanese food, but also some Italian and French dishes, but I like streatching my culianary limits, in restaurants and my kitchen. You have to try everything, but you don't have to clear your plate.

The six things I could never do without

Friends, movies, a kitchen, books, a job that works for me, travel.

I spend a lot of time thinking about

Whatever I have read or watched recently. My friends and their lives. The organization of information.

On a typical Friday night I am

Lately? Sitting at home and catching up on Netflix. Trying to get to sleep at a decent hour. Saturdays are more for going out.

The most private thing I’m willing to admit here

I've been called a polymath twice in print; once more and it will be true.

You should message me if

You live in the area and any of this looks interesting. You like talking about books, movies, and cooking.
