My self-summary
In the span of the first three days of 2012, I moved to Oakland, helped establish a co-op, bought my first commuter bike, started dating my wonderful partner DMCOakland, and began my first job in the Real World.
What I’m doing with my life
Bike commuting, meditating, learning the (left-handed) banjo, climbing trees, crafting up a storm, getting into philosophical discussions with strangers, dancing like a madman, taking yoga classes (and occasionally teaching them), and working with kiddos.
The first things people usually notice about me
Maybe the nose ring? I realized halfway through my first big job interview that I'd forgotten to take it out... But still got the job!

Otherwise, probably that I'm climbing something.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Books: Anything that causes me to reconsider everything I thought I knew. Alan Watts, Douglas Hofstadter, Pema Chödrön, Ram Dass, Tom Wolfe, Douglas Adams, Aldous Huxley, and all the Beat Poets.

Music: Generally: folk, bluegrass, and indie. Here's a small sampling: The Head and the Heart, Lumineers, The Civil Wars, Ed Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros, Carolina Chocolate Drops, Old Crow Medicine Show, Rising Appalachia, Joanna Newsom, Ponytail, tUnE-YaRdS. Lately, I've been listening to Iron Horse's Modest Mouse covers on repeat.
The six things I could never do without
(1) building, crafting, filming, art-making
(2) footnotes (and parentheses)*
(3) riding downhill on my bike with the wind in my hair
(4) Vipassana meditation (a 10-day Goenka retreat probably saved my life)
(5) climbing trees (as verb and noun)
(6) the present moment**

* No, really.
** Trick answer!
I spend a lot of time thinking about
I make a conscientious effort to think less (and experience more).
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I give names to my most beloved objects, which currently includes my bicycle (Wild Thing) and banjo (Lucy O'Leary).
