My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
I have an open mind, and will pretty much try anything once. I like the mindset "You will regret the things you didn't do, not the things you did".

I tend to be very driven, and accomplish what I set out to do. Currently, I am part way through the C25K program. I started this somewhat as a summer project, and because I wanted to be able to run 5k. No real reason other than that. Now that I've started, I will finish.

I tend to have a random fact for most situations and topics. I love to learn and actually read journals and periodicals for fun. With that said, I also love a cold beer during a hot evening with good company, and the occasional wild party. Believe me, I have stories. I didn't get the nickname "Beer Necessities" for nothing! With a name like that, you gotta know there is a story attached.
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
Currently I'm working in Toronto, and doing the 2 hour commute on the GO Train. That is going to change in the next couple months though! I'm looking for a place in Toronto to be closer to work, and play, as I'm finding myself in the city more often than not now.

I'm a huge tinker. I have a pile of electronics and components on my desk that get periodically hooked up to me. I'm interested in taking readings from the body. One side project is home made heart rate monitor that will link with my phone during my runs.
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
I think I'm more of a "Jack of all Trades" sort of person. I'm a good programmer and problem solver, and an amateur musician. I can march in a formation playing, design a power subsystem, and cook a fantastic meal. Not all at the same time mind you! though that would be rather impressive!

I am very good at having a random fact about most situations, strangely enough. Excellent memory helps with this. Be forewarned, what ever you tell me will be remembered, even if you don't want me to!
The first things people usually notice about me
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
I stand out in that I will talk right up to someone new and introduce myself. I am not shy at all about meeting new people. I've been told that I have a really nice voice to listen to, that's it's very calming and reassuring. When I conversation, I have been told that I don't break eye contact at all. Personally, I have never noticed this. Hopefully, it doesn't come across too creepy. If are first few conversations seem almost like an interrogation, sorry, my bad. It's not actually meant like that, I just ask many directed questions to new people.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Help your potential matches find common interests.
For books, I tend to read mostly man pages, references, and textbooks recently. I am working my way through "A Song of Ice and Fire" and loving every page of it! Other works of fiction I have read and very much enjoyed are:
Dune, The Lord of the Rings, The Wheel of Time Series, Dracula, Sword of Truth Series.

I used to visit reddit a lot, but somehow kicked that habit this summer. I'm worried that if I find a good sub-reddit I'll get hooked again.

For movies, my short list of favourites are: Movies by Darren Aronofsky (i enjoyed Black Swan, though prefer his earlier work more, specifically The Fountain), The Matrix, Braveheart, Hannibal. This is not an exhaustive list. Anything with a great sound track, and plot development works for me. I also love "Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs". =D

I don't watch very much TV, but my favourites have been: Battlestar Galactica, Doctor Who, Fringe, and the Big Bang Theory.

Musically, I am very much all over the place. My play list can go anywhere from the stunning strings of the Kronos Quartet, to up beat high energy top 40's. I have a soft spot of anything big band (due to how much I love playing big band music), and I'm a closet metal head. Right now I've been in an Electro-Swing binge.
The six things I could never do without
Think outside the box. Sometimes the little things can say a lot.
Commuting a lot, my #1 has to be noise isolating head phones. It's much nicer being in my own little world to relax or do work on the train.

Challenging and insightful conversation. (Big one here. I need stimulating conversation with a person who will not just tell me I'm wrong, but why. If you have an opinion on anything, please apply! I will probably challenge you if we disagree, so don't back down! :P )

An interesting problem to solve.

A cold pint with good friends

My laptop and internet connection.

A band to play with! I can't do the march band as often anymore, so am having some serious band withdrawal symptoms!
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Global warming, lunch, or your next vacation… it’s all fair game.
My run or swim tomorrow, or my any of my projects (work or personal). I tinker a lot, and have a design that I've been on for roughly 4 months now. I'm always "just one more late night" away from it being ready to send to manufacturing. Eventually, I will be done, it will be sent off, and I will have a (hopefully) working prototype to play with. This design has consumed far too much of my thought time, I pretty much have to get it done soon!
On a typical Friday night I am
Netflix and takeout, or getting your party on — how do you let loose?
I've been making a point of spending my Fridays *away* from my computer. It is my constant tether during the day, so it's nice to get away from it!
The most private thing I’m willing to admit

While I'm not shy in person, online dating intimidates the hell out of me! I'll look at someone's profile many times before I come up with some crappy opening. I find the medium allows for much early judgement and preconception that it makes introductions more difficult than they would be in person. Sadly though, it does offer the most number of chances to speak to someone new.
You should message me if
Offer a few tips to help matches win you over.
I'm pretty open minded, so if you have something interesting to say, just go for it.

Even if you don't message, take this with you: “Your task is not to seek for love, but merely to seek and find all the barriers within yourself that you have built against it.”-Rumi, Persian Poet from the 1200's
All the best.
