Do you think the government should have the...?

In response to Do you think the government should have the...?
by makeme1:
Do you think the government should have the right to censor the media such as television and radio?
  • No, it's freedom of speech.
  • Sometimes
  • Yes, they must protect the public.

It depends what you mean by "censorship." The goverment should be involved in "regulating" broadcast media because it depends on a public resource called the electromagnetic spectrum, which we all own.

The forces in society that act to restrict subversive or radical speech is not the government per se, it's the rich and the entreched elite of coporate owners. The government should act on behalf of the people and ensure the elite interests are not allowed to control debate.

So if a local station wants to air a story about how Halliburton or Diebold is subverting American democracy, they should be free to do that and the goverment should be actively involved in keeping their right to do that by restricting centralized mass ownership of these stations.

This is a different than keeping boobs off the tv, but most people who argue for keeping boobs off the tv are falling into a trap and ignoring the real issue.

Of course boobs should be on tv. More sex, less violence.

You're in a relationship/marriage and feel...?

You're in a relationship/marriage and feel that you and your mate aren't having sex frequently enough. What do you do?
  • Talk to them about it
  • Try to spice things up. (Toys, fantasies, etc)
  • Do nothing, but hope things change naturally.
  • Cheat on them / Break up with them.

Calling having sex with someone else as a solution "cheating" assumes the mainstream societal position of monagamy as a goal. If you're not getting enough from one, go get it from another and don't stress over it. That doesn't mean you have to break up with the first one or that you are cheating.
