I am the sort of guy who thinks life is more or less about doing all the interesting things that human beings happen to do while not getting yourself killed while doing so. I will take the risk that I'm going to embarrass myself by sending a girl a bunch of super bad jokes on the off chance it'll make her smile for five minutes (I promise you I only send the *very best* super bad jokes). I will also take the chance you couldn't care less when I try and talk passionately about presidential politics and French movies from sixties and the best places around town to get Chinese food or a burger. My friends (god bless those charitable weirdos) would describe me as intelligent, creative, passionate and ambitious, but at the same time I've got a sarcastic/sardonic streak a mile-wide. To add to the mix, I'm Canadian, which means I will always try to be polite and friendly, actually apologize when I bump into people, do my best to be a gentleman and will probably end up telling you how to dress properly for winter. (Sadly, I've forgotten how to dog-sled).

I'm the general counsel at a tech start-up focused on the fashion industry. Otherwise, I'm busy trying out new places to eat, drink and be entertained or captivated in NYC. Also, I'm spending a lot of time arguing with my friends why American civilization is going to self-destruct any moment now. Occasional exercise.

Listening to Leonard Cohen songs. Also, finding places to sit in the shade at Bryant Park.

A sarcastic and goofy sense of humour. The fact that I spell humour with a "u".

Books: Moby Dick, Middlemarch, Midnight's Children, Left Hand of Darkness, The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay, Watchmen, Sandman, Don't Care High, the Foundation trilogy, Ender's Game, A Staggering Work of Heart-Breaking Genius, Liar's Poker, Moneyball, almost anything by Philip K Dick.

Movies and directors: Woody Allen, Passolini, Kurosawa, John Ford, Hitchcock. I could watch Star Wars ten times over and then I could go watch Singing in the Rain ten times over. Casablanca (the most charming film ever made). Babe (yes, the movie with the talking pig).

Music: Elvis Costello, The Police, Leonard Cohen, The Clash, David Bowie, Nas, Jurassic 5, Jay-Z, some Kanye, the Roots (Game Theory), Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Don Giovanni, Marriage of Figaro, Einstein on the Beach and other Philip Glass and Steven Reich, U2, Rufus Wainright.

Foods/Dining: sushi, dim sum, matzah ball soup, Montreal bagels and smoked meat. Actually, I'm curious enough to try anything, except maybe beef liver. Or chicken liver.

I played boys field hockey when I was kid for two years. Yup, I went back for a second season. Loved it!
