My self-summary
Let's see... I'm dorkish. I dig things like linguistics, astrobiology, philosophy and old movies. I relate to Don Quixote. Sometimes I write, sometimes I try to make music. I enjoy a constant IV of good tunes, though if an actual radio is on chances are I'm listening to NPR. I enjoy the meaning of randomness and the randomness of meaning.

My sense of humor tends toward the sarcastic and dry.

Also cooking is fun.

Ummm... I worked as an assistant preschool teacher at a daycare/learning center for a while. It was high stress sometimes, but I adored it and find myself missing all of "my kids" quite often.

I've always been the "I can't believe you're single" and the "I wish my boyfriend was more like you" guy with my female friends. They say I'm a catch, but I don't think being funny and nice and sweet go as far as they want me to believe.

I am sweet, amusingly sarcastic, and a hopeless romantic
What I’m doing with my life
Trying to return some semblance of normality to it.
I’m really good at
Cooking, I'm told. Being a "sweetheart," I'm also told. Being a nice guy (which, by the way, does mean you usually finish last). Giving advice (I assume since I've long been the "go to" for relationship advice). Putting my friends before myself.

Statistically I should be good at other things too, but I'm my own worst critic so I'm probably the wrong person to ask.
The first things people usually notice about me
Probably that I tend to be shy and quiet, especially when I'm not in a group of close friends. As far as physically... eyes maybe?
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Books: The entire "Hitchiker's Guide To The Galaxy" series by Douglas Adams, "American Gods" by Neil Gaiman, "Don Quixote" by Cervantes, "Pure Drivel" by Steve Martin, "Beowulf," Shakespeare, The Silmarillion, Flatland. I like reading about history, the universe, philosophy, ancient cultures, and language too.

Movies: PCU, Eagle vs. Shark, The Royal Tennenbaums, The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou, The Fall (One of my favorite films ever), Stranger Than Fiction, The World of Henry Orient, Mary & Max. various old films (including the silent era), Lost In Translation, Juno, Rocky Horror Picture Show, I Heart Huckabees, Eternal Sunshine On The Spotless Mind, Star Wars, Little Miss Sunshine, Nick & Norah's Infinite Playlist, The Invention of Lying, most quirky movies and most film versions of musicals. I tend to be a sucker for romantic comedies too.

Music: Lately a lot of acoustic/folk/singer-songwriter stuff, shoegaze, synthpop/electropop, 80s classics, indie stuff and triphop. A lot of stuff that isn't real mainstream (I heart Specifically some of my favorite bands right now are Matt & Kim, The Hives, Kimya Dawson, Hem, Goldfrapp, The Postal Service, DeVotchKa, Rilo Kiley, The Stooges, Airiel, Lush, Nouvelle Vague, The Ting Tings, Placebo, Casiotone For The Painfully Alone, Bishop Allen, Talking Heads, Massive Attack, Mates of State, The Boy Least Likely To, Nick Drake, Reverend Horton Heat, Saxon Shore, My Bloody Valentine & Asobi Seksu. I could seriously go on and on and on, though.

Food: Grilled cheese. Definitely grilled cheese. Other things too, but especially grilled cheese. And spicy garlic boneless wings from Buffalo Wild Wings. Also a pasta nut.

TV: Stargate: SG-1 is still at the top of the list of "All time favorite shows." Castle, Firefly, The Ricky Gervais Show, House, Flight of the Conchords, various things on Adult Swim, The Mighty Boosh, Archer, The Big Bang Theory, Fringe, Warehouse 13, Eureka, and Haven.
The six things I could never do without
My friends, chapstick, good music, my computer, my cell phone (I'm a huge texter) and my kindle.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
The future, life in general, music, what to cook next, philosophy, things of an existential nature.
On a typical Friday night I am
More often than not trying to compose music, writing, reading, watching old movies on TCM or being bored and/or lame.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I have an anxiety disorder which tends to make life quite difficult and/or complicated. At the moment it's to the point where I can't work (hence the being unemployed). I might as well get that out right now because I know it'll be a giant red flag for pretty much every woman. I figure that if I have to operate under false pretenses for someone to be interested in me then it's meaningless and to paraphrase Dr. Gregory House "I want meaning."

That having been said, I'm probably one of the nicest, sweetest and most romantic guys you'd ever meet if you actually gave me a chance.
I’m looking for
  • Girls who like guys
  • Ages 25–35
  • Near me
  • Who are single
  • For new friends, long-term dating
You should message me if
You are very understanding, nice, sweet, seem to have some of the same interests, can make me laugh. All that pleasant stuff. I've had enough of being on the wrong end of playing games in my life. I just want to find that special someone that I can have an actual relationship with.

Also, if you think that my life will be substantially better after having become acquainted with you.

And definitely if you're not afraid to send the first message.
