My self-summary
“To be yourself in a world that is constantly trying to make you something else is the greatest accomplishment.”
- Ralph Waldo Emerson

When I first read the above quote from Emerson as a child, I wondered what Emerson meant. It's taken me close to 20 years to kind of figure it out. Although I haven't gotten it all sorted, I've been focusing on changing to what I want to be, and not what I thought others wanted me to be.

I have learned this about myself and what others have told me: I have an odd sense of humor that borders on sarcasm, slightly witty, but also perverted. Sometimes too honest for my own good, a talker when the subject is something I really enjoy. I am confrontational when necessary, subversive when required, easy going most of the time, and really enjoy learning what makes people work.

The answers are not all that important, it is the questions that matter. And for me, the question is (and I hope always will be), am I happy? Life is always in flux.
What I’m doing with my life
"I am the wisest man alive, for I know one thing, and that is I know nothing."
- Socrates

Currently working full time, doing some consulting on the side, writing a play (harder than I thought), and trying to make new friends after dropping the old ones. (This is tough at 30, but I welcome the challenge.)

I am trying to be less judgmental of what others like. Difficult, but it is a nice change of pace. Let people enjoy what they want to enjoy as long as it brings no mental or physical harm to others. We waste so much energy hating on others because they like something we don't agree with or understand, let's try to appreciate their differences. We could learn a little more about ourselves.
I’m really good at
making an old fashioned or a mojito.
pretending I know more than I actually do.
picking up cues in body language.
reciting or making quotes.
making up personal back stories of myself and others.
The first things people usually notice about me
"People don't notice whether it's winter or summer when they're happy."
- Anton Chekhov

My smile or my scowl. This is dependent on my surroundings. If I'm at the mall, good chance it's a scowl. If I'm at a bar, good chance I'm smiling.

My laugh, it is very loud and very funny.

Or if I am wearing shorts, my backside and strong legs.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
"Cinema should make you forget you are sitting in a theater."
- Roman Polanski

Television
I am an avid binge watcher, I will devour whole series in a matter of days (or weeks if there are many seasons.)
House of Cards, Doctor Who, Sherlock, Mad Men, Archer, Family Guy, Cosmos, Community, Parks and Rec, The Daily Show, and South Park.

Movies
I absolutely love movies, the stories told in a couple of hours can be downright brilliant (looking at you, Casablanca) or abhorrent (looking at you, The Godfather Part III.)
Star Wars (prefer the first trilogy), Tron and Tron: Legacy, The Lion King, The Godfather, Casablanca, Caddyshack, Anchorman, Rebel Without a Cause, Thank You for Smoking, The Dark Knight, Iron Man, Drive, and Blazing Saddles. (Plus many more, but I will keep the list short.)

Books
I enjoy reading, but I've learned I rather devour a good journal/blog entry than a book. I spend more time reading economic, political, sex, sports blogs, and newspapers than I do books. So with that, here is a list of authors/writers/reporters/bloggers/thinkers that I like.
Kurt Vonnegut, Bill Simmons, Ezra Klein, Nate Silver, Ralph Waldo Emerson, Plato, Friedrich Nietzsche, Stephen Dubner/Steven Leavitt, Tim O'Brien, Robert Frost, Langston Hughes, and Albert Camus.

Music
Very eclectic (like everyone else.)
Beatles, Miles Davis, Kanye West, Tupac, Beethoven, Handel, Mozart, Queen, Michael Jackson, Eminem, Marvin Gaye, George Gershwin, Coldplay, The Killers, and St. Vincent.

Food
Pizza and sandwiches are my absolute favorites. You tell me there is a pizza joint or sandwich place that I have to try and it's open, believe I am driving to it in a matter of minutes.

Other than that, I will try anything and I mean anything. If it can be eaten, I will try it.
The six things I could never do without
sweaters
sandwiches/pizza
scotch/bourbon
laptop
coffee

I spend a lot of time thinking about
-the growing overlap between OKC and Tinder.
-why is grammar so important for women on here? I've gone through a high number of profiles and the common thread when it comes to women is they want someone who can spell and use proper English. If grammar is important to you, you're in luck, I know how to use an ellipsis.
-sex (from both a physical standpoint and its cultural significance.)
-alcohol (why are scotch and bourbon so damn delicious?)
-philosophy (what is the good life? Is nihilism really all that important?)
-how many photos I have unintentionally photobombed.
-why does black clothing sometimes appear more transparent than white clothing?
On a typical Friday night I am
Working, drinking, watching a movie or play, or catching up on sleep if I haven't been able to sleep too much that week.

(People, please. The whole, "there isn't a typical Friday night for me" is cliché. We all have typical Friday nights, the key word is "typical" and your one, wild Friday night regresses to the mean.)
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I've taken a few cock selfies, but who hasn't?
I’m looking for
  • Girls who like guys
  • Ages 28–45
  • Near me
  • For new friends, long-term dating, short-term dating, casual sex
You should message me if
if you would like to grab a drink, attend a show, concert, a movie, museum or go for a hike.

you want to make a new friend and see where it goes.

height isn't an important factor to you. You can wear heels, just be forewarned, I will not be wearing heels. Although, if they make them wide enough, I will give them a whirl. ;)

I am not one to go back and forth in messages. If there is mutual interest, let's meet in person and see where it goes.
