I am linguistic, inquisitive, and passionate.
My Self-Summary
I'm Marina, a proud
UC Davis graduate (undergrad and grad)
and an Aggie for life.
Fun facts about
Señorita B:
First and foremost, I'm a teacher that loves to learn... hence why
I am
ENFJ, "the
teacher".
I'm politically liberal.
I'm one of those people that picks up coins they see on the ground,
even if it's just a penny.
Ask me about my
travels or studying abroad, and you
probably won't get me to shut up. ;)
I go through entirely too many post-its, I say "cookie batter" and
not "cookie dough," and I will always choose chocolate over
vanilla.
I cringe slightly at yet find it HYSTERICAL when someone says, "I'm
inteligent, intelectual, and have good grammer" (or any combination
thereof).
...Wow, it actually pained me to write those words like that. I
might just have to go back at a later date and change that.
I really want to get a perfect score on "The Virgin Test" and "The
Gaydar Test" on here, but I don't want my already legit scores to
go down. If your score is higher than mine on either of those
tests, I will be secretly jealous of you. ;)
Now in Spanish
También hablo español así que si tal vez estás interesado, mándame
un mensajito... te responderé por supuesto ;)
Now in Italian
L'italiano è stato solo la mia materia secondaria quindi no lo
parlo benissimo.
Ma, se stai interessato, mandami un messagio... ti risponderò
certamente!
What I’m doing with my life
I
teach high school
full-time in Redwood City! And, though it's quite a lot of work,
getting to work in my pajamas during spirit week and getting free
food in the teachers' lounge helps me get through the hard
days...
Oh, and I am indeed still working on my MA in Education- though I
decided to hold off on it until next year- so that I could focus
more on my first year of teaching. :)
I’m really good at
grammar, editing, trivia, explaining things,
Spanish, working under pressure, cards,
poker (I won a
tournament at UCD with almost 300 people... only about 10 of which
were girls!),
sleeping
The first things people usually notice about me
Ask my students- they'll probably give you the most honest,
straightforward answers as to what they first noticed about
me.
However, here's what most people notice:
Physically?
-Smile
-Glasses/eyes/eyelashes
-That I'm almost always wearing
earrings?
Also-
-That I usually get along with just about anyone. I'm definitely a
people-person, but it sorta comes with the job.
-Quick-witted-ness
-Confidence
My favorite books, movies, music, and food
I love all of the above items. Way too many to list them all.
But here's a small sampling of my tastes at the moment:
Books: I'm currently reading- The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy,
The Bourne Identity, The Lord of the Rings trilogy, and
education-related books for my thesis
Movies: Netflix is wondrous. A few movies on my queue right now
are-
Arrested Development, Step
Brothers, Son of Rambow, Sin City, Tropic Thunder, all of the
Maxtrixes (Matrices?)
Music: Why was I the last one to figure out how to buy music on
iTunes? It's amazing. I would say I like mostly popular music...
um, like pop, haha. Some of my faves are: Jason Mraz,
John Mayer, Reik, Fall
Out Boy, and Pitbull
Food: I'm not gonna lie, I'm a little bit picky about my food, but
at the same time, I will try almost anything and I LOVE
ethnic food: Mexican,
Italian, Thai, Sushi, good ol' American... as long as it's
delicious, that's all I care about! I'm totally of the opinion that
some of the BEST food in the world comes from stands off the side
of the road, out of people's minivans, or at someone's home.
The six things I could never do without
1)
my mommy. I
talk to her pretty much everyday. She is pretty much the best mom
in the whole world.
2) travel. Mexico/Central America are next on the list.
3) the best pen to grade papers. As a teacher, there's nothing
better than the perfect writing instrument.
4)
garlic. I'm not
a huge fan of onions, so I generally just replace it with garlic. A
cup of onions is = to a cup of garlic, right?
5) really, really cold water. I can't help it; I just love it. I
always have at least a few water bottles (reusable ones!) in the
fridge at all times.
6)
lip gloss. I
have assorted colors, pigments, and brands. I have at least one in
every purse, and I am constantly applying it. I guess it makes for
some soft lips? ;)
I spend a lot of time thinking about
why I'm irrationally afraid of bees, why my students try to add me
on facebook, how I'm going to pay off my students loans, where I'm
going to travel next, language
On a typical Friday night I am
~Relaxing after a long week of teaching, i.e. staying in and
watching a movie or some TV
~Hanging out with friends (barhopping, dancing, playing some poker
or board games, etc)
~Lesson planning for the next week or grading papers (I know, it's
definitely not as fun as the other two)
The most private thing I’m willing to admit here
Ummm, let's see... I also still own (and play!) my Sega Genesis. No
fancy Xbox, GameCube, or whatever else is the happening gadget
these days. Just me, my Sega, and one Mr. Sonic the Hedgehog.
You should message me if
-If you want to show me around the bay area.
-If you'll eat the lemon and orange skittles for me.
-If you're a dog lover and/or a cat lover (but dog lover is most
important)
-If you know what a semicolon is and how to use it properly
;)
-If you find the following SNL clip as hilarious as I do:

**Conservatives, people that wRiTe LyKe DiS, those that devalue
education, smokers, and people that don't know the difference
between "your" and "you're" need not apply.**
AND P.S. I'm waaay funnier/wittier/awesome-er in person...
sometimes I feel like not all of my personality comes through
online, so don't judge me too harshly in those first few
preliminary messages on here, ok?
