My Self-Summary

Hi! I'm a professional dogooder, occasional rabble-rouser and a pretty good listener. Finding jobs for at-need youth during our generation's toughest economy? Might just be my superpower. What's your's? Before that I maxed out my three years in AmeriCorps VISTA as a mentor and recruiter for some awesome local organizations who are also fighting the good fight to alleviate poverty. I'm super interested in discovering new things and finding the best in myself and in others. I once loaded 8 loads of laundry on my sweet 'ol commuter bike and I make a mean egg and/or tofu scramble. I'm the only person I know who's had an article written about their exploits in The Mercury.

I’m really good at

... getting lost on purpose.
... active listening.
... being vulnerable.
... public speaking.
... the campground rule.
... sharing my born and raised knowledge of PDX awesomeness.

The first things people usually notice about me

I get pretty good feedback on my deep, blue eyes.

I've worked hard to be more ambidextrous on the introvert/extrovert scale. Now I get called out during first impressions for being one or the other all the time. If you're ever able to witness and appreciate both sides, then you're well on your way to being a trusted friend.

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

* Books: So Long and Thanks for All the Fish, Hocus Pocus, Gandhi's Truth
* Movies: Donnie Darko, PCU, Can't Hardly Wait
* Music: Sleater-Kinney, Billy Joel, Janis Joplin
* Food: Veggie Sushi, Pad Thai, late-to-roll-out-of-bed weekend breakfasts
* TV: The Whedonverse, Judd Apatow, Wonderfalls, Big Love

Quotes:

* "Nothing in the world is more distasteful to a man than to take the path that leads to himself." -- Herman Hesse

* "I don't want to sell anything, buy anything, or process anything as a career. I don't want to sell anything bought or processed, or buy anything sold or processed, or process anything sold, bought, or processed, or repair anything sold, bought, or processed. You know, as a career, I don't want to do that." -- Lloyd Dobler, Say Anything

* Bart: Besides, what's so great about kissing?
Milhouse: Bart, it's not just the kissing. A lot of it is waiting to kiss. You know, like when you open an Eskimo Pie and you wait just a little bit for it to melt.
Bart: But she doesn't melt...
Milhouse: Oh yes she does

— The Simpsons

* "We can't possibly retrieve our balls from the highest office in the land." — Mikey, Recess

* "You can't fight the world alone." — Noam Chomsky

The most private thing I’m willing to admit here

I can count my number of first kisses on one hand.
