"When you mentioned accidentally rolling on top of your cat while
you're sleeping, it reminded me of - you know how when you go to a
fair there's a BIG FAT pig nursing tons of piglets? And suddenly
she'll roll over and they'll all go SQUEEEE-EEE_EEE?"

What I'm doing with my life Propose an edit
I've spent the past 8 years making a series of unintentional big
leaps school- and career-wise, but things are settling in a great
(and still exciting, I think) sort of way.
Right now I'm working toward a Ph.D. in forensic psychology, after
having spent 5+ years as a stage manager, and after having gotten a
degree in dramatic writing (which yes, has nothing to do with
forensics or psychology). I'm appreciating the irony of wanting to
associate with criminals rather than producers, and I'm thrilled to
get to really focus on something I find so fascinating.
I work full time in addition to going to school, so I get my
entertainment however I can. I LOVE people-watching, laughing at
idosyncrasies, and listening to stories. I'm the first person to
laugh at anything ridiculous about myself, and I don't take myself
too seriously.
I travelled a lot and camped/backpacked with my family when I was
younger, so I'm in the mood to stay in one place for a while
(school/work have also made going elsewhere less of an option). But
I loved it at the time.
I'm a workaholic at heart - which seems to serve my current
schedule well. I'm definitely the most driven person in my classes
and a bit of a perfectionist at work, but people tend to think I'm
a chatty/wacky/lovable person before they'd think of me as a
hardass. I tend to surprise people by being the first person to
help when they're in a real bind, and by being a fiercely
loyal/protective friend and good listener (yes, you can care about
people even if you are fascinated by gruesome things).
AND, lately I've started studying Krav Maga. It is SO fun! These
people are batshit bonkers, but I love that it is no frills and
that someone my size can still kick ass. It's amazing showing up
for work with random bruises and being able to say it's from
learning street fighting. Makes me laugh, even though it probably
weirds other people out (though I don't give an eff about that).
I'm really good at Propose an edit
Apparently imitating animals. Telling funny stories. "Borrowing"
great lines from standup comedians by accident. Putting my foot in
my mouth.
The first thing(s) people usually notice about me Propose an edit
If I'm facing you, my curly hair. If not, my ass (apparently I have
a J-Lo booty).
My favorite books, movies, music, and food Propose an edit
Books: Anna Karenina, To the Lighthouse, Love in the Time of
Cholera, Song of Solomon, The Heart is a Lonely Hunter. Everything
by David Sedaris (except when he waxes poetic about being a
celebrity). Everything by Agatha Christie and Sir Arthur Conan
Doyle is fun. Right now I'm reading a book about psychopathy - it's
so fucking interesting.
Movies: Manhattan Murder Mystery, Shaun of the Dead, 40 Year-Old
Virgin, Hot Fuzz, You Can Count On Me, Sleeper, Ma Vie en Rose,
Cinema Paradiso (the first version)...
Music: According to the kids at work, my music is "underground
rap"? Also, blues. I like to listen to it more than I think about
it.
The six things I could never do without Propose an edit
My cat, coffee, my books, irony, people-watching, close friends...
I spend a lot of time thinking about Propose an edit
Phantom limbs. Jumping Frenchmen of Maine disorder.
On a typical Friday night I am Propose an edit
On my couch with my cat. Reading about gruesome death and rare
disorders/syndromes - as homework, not just to be creepy. I also
love ending up at dive bars or just on the couch with friends,
trading hilarious stories about our latest crazy people encounters.
The most private thing I'm willing to admit here Propose an edit
I'm a former Irish step dancer (even though I'm not Irish).

You're a smartass, you're sarcastic and you really can appreciate a
morbid sense of humor (not just talking dead baby jokes,
here).
You're not precious and you're not into schmaltzy romance BS.
You're close to my age. You're in/near NYC (seriously, kids, I'm
not looking for penpals).
You don't take your iPod, movie collection, or book collection too
seriously...
Preferably you're a political leftie, with the ability to talk
topics other than politics.
We'll probably get along better if you're a little bit of a
workaholic, since I have trouble relating to having/wanting too
much down time.
I'll admit I'm kind of a sucker for brown eyes, a deep voice (in
men). And nice hands. Assuming these aren't the only things you
have going for you...
No cyber sex, please. It's not a good use of my hands.
If you only want to IM for months, go elsewhere, please. I'm not
looking for penpals. And my computer has angst when I try to IM on
this site anyway, so e-mail is honestly best.
