I am lanky, random, and lightly carbonated.

My Self-Summary

Hi. I work in words and love music (local original when possible), musing, moving, playing, reading, silliness, poetry readings. Irony and satire, serious reflection, less serious distraction, the swamp, wandering aimlessly, daydreaming, road trips. Good poetry. Great wine and beer (but sometimes a PBR in a dive bar/pool hall/bowling alley is perfection). Night (cf. astronomy and insomnia). Cooking, tasting, quiet, listening. Science fascinates me poetically, but poetry doesn't fascinate me scientifically. Travel. Patience (quick to kindness and slow to anger). Beauty. Art. Wilderness. Big cities. Exploring. Politics mostly makes me sad, but I pay attention. I'm the quiet type, generally, but not overly reticent.

What I’m doing with my life

I teach poetry and contemporary lit at VSU. Otherwise I'm enjoying life in South Georgia, a spy from California. I write poetry and the occasional essay and live music reviews for owlandbear.com .

I’m really good at

Cooking, wasting time in a wine shop or record store, baking sourdough, finding porcini, chanterelles, and oyster mushrooms, basketball, listening, being silly.

The first things people usually notice about me

Ya' know? I have no idea.

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

Califone, Pavement, Guided by Voices, Lemuria, Surfer Blood, Jenny Lewis or Rilo Kiley, Red Red Meat, Built to Spill, Los Campesinos!, Tom Waits, Yo La Tengo, Iron & Wine, Neko Case (and her various projects, Drive-By Truckers, Titus Andronicus, Dirty Projectors, Pixies, Guided by Voices, Neutral Milk Hotel, Bowie, Eno, Joy Division, Replacements, early Devo, early prog (e.g. Peter Gabriel's Genesis); locals Ninja Gun, No More Analog, Trailer of Tears, False Arrest, Blackula, Night Driving in Small Towns, and much, much more. My (sensesworking.blogspot.com web site can fill you in some here.)

I teach lit, so lots of books. Read Bob Hicok or Kim Addonizio or Larry Levis or Philip Levine or Dorianne Laux or Elena Karina Byrne or Heather McHughif you enjoy poetry. Samuel Beckett is hilarious.

Food? Yes, comfort or spicy. I like to cook, bake pizza and bread, curries, all Asian, Mex.

Movies: Lynch and Jarmusch should give you an idea, so lots of independent films, but I'm flexible. I also love B-movies.

The six things I could never do without

Good coffee, red wine, good food, music and lit, breathing.

I spend a lot of time thinking about

The nature of desire and consciousness, loss, laughter--the usual poetry stuff. Otherwise, too much for a little box, but I'm not obsessive about anything.

On a typical Friday night I am

At a house show listening to music and sipping a Guinness or hanging out with colleagues bowling sipping a Guinness. (My presence on OKC may suggest I'm open to alternatives.)

The most private thing I’m willing to admit here

I have a pair of gold lame' high heels and they fit.

You should message me if

If any of this interests. Random questions are encouraged and I won't assume that, just because you messaged me, your intentions are romantic.
