Something like an aesthete and an ascetic, rolled in curiosity, and baked in a pop culture pie.
What I’m doing with my life
Finishing up a degree in Anthropology at UC Berkeley, thinking about future endeavors, and generally enjoying the warm California sun.
I’m really good at
What I set my mind to/ that hand slap game - I have cat like
reflexes! Also risotto.
The first things people usually notice about me
That I look like my self-summary followed by the (hopefully quick)
realization that I'm easy to talk to, funny and of a calm nature.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Don Delillo, Denis Johnson, David Foster Wallace, Naomi Klein, Chuck Klosterman, Brian Greene, Sara Vowell, Dave Eggers, others, most of the classics I've taken the time to read I've enjoyed.
I enjoy most foods. I made kim chi for the first time last weekend and it worked in a tasty way.
Music... way too many to name but mostly rock music and hip hop, old jazz, country sounds. The Reigning Sound have been a favorite for years, Japandroids, King Khan, Dave Holland, Old '97's, Neko Case, Steve Spacek, Ghostface Killah, yo la tengo, even some of the new Guided By Voices, so many others... I go through spells when I pay attention to discovering new music and spells when I revisit old stuff, but I can't imagine my life without its constantly evolving sound track. I was a teenage punk rocker, but then who wasn't? In high school French class for a fake family I made Ian MacKaye my uncle, Kim Gordon my aunt, Bill Evans my grandpa, Cindy Sherman my mom, and Richard Serra my dad. As the years pass, that still seems about right.
The six things I could never do without
music, art, conversation, food (preferably tasty), mystery and
people who are not like me.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
over thinking things, despite it being in my nature to do so.
On a typical Friday night I am
wondering what typical is and if I'm successfully pulling it off.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I'm aware that love hurts.
