My self-summary
I like things that challenge me. When I am bored I try to learn new things. Some things I like: writing, reading, politics, philosophy, ballroom dancing, singing, cooking, photoshop, football, flag football, frisbee golf, ultimate frisbee. I walk marathons in my spare time and have been known to brew my own beer before.

I try to be pretty relaxed and go with the flow. I hate stress and try to avoid it as much as I can. When it is time to work and be serious, I work very very hard and am very very serious. I value long term friendships and keep a select handful of very close friends -- many of them for several decades now. I believe in loyalty and trust and all sorts of good-natured stand-up things like that. I like adventures and fun, but try to limit the bad decisions so that I'm not paying the price later. I have always been a fiscally responsible, hard working type.

I enjoy traveling, but don't get to go nearly enough. I have driven cross country multiple times and plan on doing so again. Someday I'd like to play a round of frisbee golf in all 50 states. I have been to Tokyo and Hong Kong and would like to make it to Europe someday.
What I’m doing with my life
I am a freelance writer. I have written for screen, animation, comic books, games and cellphone apps.

I currently find it fun to look at schools and dream about all the careers I passed up and all the ones I still might pursue.
I’m really good at
I'm logical. I'm reasonable. I pursue knowledge for knowledge sake. I make lists and document really well. I can make a mean excel spreadsheet as well as a spicy bowl of chili. I cook, but I am pretty bad about reading the recipes. I'm a good listener, but I am more of a solver. I'm good at keeping friends for decades at a time. I'm good at imagining what life should be like, even if I don't always get there. I believe in objective reason and analytical thinking, but am a romantic dreamer in my spare time.
The first things people usually notice about me
My eyes. I have really cool blue eyes that can change color with my mood. I also have rosy cheeks. I also am constantly cutting my facial hair into new patterns. After actually talking to me, I hope people notice much more than just these physical features.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
I prefer story over special effects, ideas over action, romance over violence... Some of my favorites: Casablanca, Citizen Kane, The Shawshank Redemption, Fight Club, It's a Wonderful Life, The Matrix Part 1 (Parts 2, 3 should not exist), Blues Brothers, North by Northwest, Boogie Nights, Glory, Memento, Moulin Rouge, Mulholland Drive, Magnolia.

I like to flip between The History Channel, ESPN, and MSNBC -- I can do that for hours on end. Some shows I have enjoyed: Sports Night, Parenthood, Arrested Development, Scrubs, Twin Peaks, Lost, The Shield, The Office, Colbert Report, 30 Rock, Flight of the Conchords, It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia.

I am a nonfiction history junkie. For fun I'll read Elmore Leonard, Stephen King, Harry Turtledove, and Chuck Palahniuk.

I enjoy most types of music, but prefer something I can dance or sing along to. Swing, Rock, Ska, Show tunes. I like to sing along to Cake, Sinatra, Elvis, Johnny Cash, and The Beatles. I grew up in a household where we all learned more than one instrument (mine were piano and alto saxophone) and we were all also in choir. I have a long long love/hate history with karaoke.
The six things I could never do without
A notebook to write in.
My mind is blanking on 4 other things right now... Food, oxygen, water and sunlight?
I spend a lot of time thinking about
I like to spend a lot of time thinking. And then thinking again.
On a typical Friday night I am
Sometimes I have to work and I am writing. Sometimes I get to have fun and I might go to a bar. I enjoy pub trivia, hanging with close friends, jokes and good stories. I dabble in cards and boardgames as well. It's been awhile, but live theatre is also a good thing.
