I am passionate, smart, and giving.
My Self-Summary
First, let me clarify that my screenname is MayaBS, not may-abs
(long story). Turns out OKC won't allow me to change it. Despite
this, I still think OKC is one of the best designed sites on the
internet.
I love playing (but only occasionally watching) sports, reading,
hiking, drinking tea (and recently coffee in yuppified latte form),
and dinner parties. I am interested in learning about almost every
topic except for beer-making (long story).
What I’m doing with my life
I currently work as an internet product manager, but I'm excited to
be going to grad school at Stanford in the fall.
I’m really good at
Learning new things, sports, scritchy (more info later), teasing,
getting along with (almost everyone), problem solving.
The first things people usually notice about me
My red, leonine hair and acerbic humor.
My favorite books, movies, music, and food
Books: In addition to being obsessed with my kindle, I also listen
to audibooks every night before falling asleep. A few recent
favorites:
A Tale of Love and Darkness (Amos Oz's autobiography about growing
up with Israel), Ghost Map (about the Cholera epidemic in 1840s
London). Eiger Dreams by Jon Krakauer (gripping vignettes about
climbing)...
---------------
Music:
If it weren't for my brothers and Pandora, I'd still be listening
to the Body Guard sound-track on repeat. Yet, thanks to them, I
have a reasonably diverse collection.
---------------
Food:
I love all food and especially appreciate meals that are cooked for
me. I enjoy cooking for 15+ people, but not so much for myself.
Luckily work takes care of this for me.
The six things I could never do without
Books
Friends
Family
L'internet
Humor
Sports (squash, running, soccer, basketball, hiking)
I spend a lot of time thinking about
product design, my friends and family, work, the book I'm reading,
Health 2.0--how the internet and data-mining will change health
care delivery...
The most private thing I’m willing to admit here
I like the Sound of Music and would be quite magnanimous towards
any straight male willing to watch it.
You should message me if
I like intellectuals/geeks who are comfortable being social (i.e.
grad students and engineers more than stereotype of 'frat boys' or
'suits'). I particularly value intelligence. Ideally, you'd also
like some form of physical activity and reading.
