My self-summary
I'm ambitious, creative, a geek, admittedly girly as evidenced by the photos, but with some edge/experience not depicted. If money were no issue, I would still work (probably). If time were no issue, I would cook a lot more and invite people over for more 4 hour dinners. When home, I like to be homey. When traveling, I make the most of every new place. E.g., getting dolled up for a solo dinner in Lisbon, brandishing embarrassingly bad French in Morocco, or just striking up conversation at a Nashville taco joint.
What I’m doing with my life
By day, a management consultant with a not-so-distant non-profit past. Used to be a teacher, am still involved in education and plan to be in a meaningful way my whole life. (I am drawn to people who value/are passionate about making a difference.) Otherwise, I am hanging out, looking forward to a new hike, especially if I get to see/touch water along the way or at the end, a yoga class at Mission Cliffs, coveting other peoples' dogs, getting about half-way through whatever book for my book club, trying a new whisky/ey, or keeping in touch with family members.
I’m really good at
Picking the best thing on the menu, striking a balance between sarcasm and warmth
The first things people usually notice about me
I have one favorite purple hat to go with two weeks' worth of scarves in winter. (Grad school in Michigan)
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Books: Invisible Bridge, Year of Wonders, the Master, reviews by James Wood, Mr. Penumbra's 24 Hour Bookstore
Movies/TV: Home for the Holidays, Reality Bites, Mad Men, Breaking Bad, Downton Abbey, Orange is the New Black, Battlestar Galactica
Food: Mission Beach Cafe, chicken in waffles from the Box, Three Twins lemon cookie ice cream, Mama Ji's
Music: Something on Hype Machine, Tegan & Sara, Cat Stevens, Black Keys, Joni Mitchell, Tallest Man on Earth, Florence + the Machine, The Blow, Polica, Sharon Jones, Hot Chip, Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, etc.
The six things I could never do without
Great books (the kind you feel you should ration to stretch out the enjoyment but can't help yourself from consuming all at once, sunny day or not), green smoothies, good friends, good conversation (the kind that crosses totally different topics but just flows, usually had with the good friends), my family, the outdoors
I spend a lot of time thinking about
education reform, the next venue/cocktail theme for a happy hour I'm organizing, the next travel destination, the next career step, how much I love calling this city home, its culture, characters, inequalities, and all
On a typical Friday night I am
Dinner or drinks with friends, enjoying couch time
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
(Think I already did in one of the answers to these never-ending questions.)

-you appreciate all kinds of humor -- from sarcasm to silliness -- and prefer to laugh rather than not
-you are confident enough to ask a woman out if you like her, but wouldn't be turned off by her taking the initiative now and again.
