I am forest-dwelling, felicitous, and felonious.
My Self-Summary
I haven't lived in Chicago very long. I was born here, though I
moved away shortly afterward. That wasn't my choice, of course.
I've lived all over a little more than the Eastern half of the
States: New Jersey, West Texas, Cleveland, Iowa, East Texas, and
now back to Chicago to work on the ol' higher education. It's been
a pretty good life so far, and I'm eager to see where this last
move takes me.
I believe in
writing and
saving people. Superman was a
journalist in his spare time, right? I ought to work on that.
In case you're terribly offended by my pomposity, I picked "fit"
for "body type" because it happens to be my very favorite British
slang term for handsome. So there. Quite right.
What I’m doing with my life
I've gone and hit the big red button on my life again. Time to
reset and start fresh. I've just spent the last year supporting
myself in a city I love.
My last job was fairly ridiculous; here are the exciting bits: I
did research for a movie/book my boss was writing; I was in the
middle of putting together a new political publication that will
perhaps someday be pretty sweet (and because of this I dealt with
some excellent people's assistants' assistants personally,
including
Rahm
Emmanuel and
Sen. Dick Durbin); towards
the end of the gig I was most heavily involved with the development
of a hotel in
Berlin, which ended up knocking the rest
of the jobs into hiatus-mode, along with most of my hours.
So here I am, effectively jobless again, but thrilled. I intend to
become excruciatingly well-read in the next year, as well as whip
myself into supernaturally pleased-with-myself shape. I'm on my way
to becoming the best goddamn
doctor you'll ever know thank you very
much - what I'll do with all of that medical/surgical knowledge I'm
not sure yet. But I figure everybody needs a doctor at some point -
just ask
Sherlock Holmes and
Captain Kirk.
I’m really good at
Storytelling, absorbing stories, entertaining myself, being a good
friend and a wonderful older brother.
The first things people usually notice about me
Everyone I've ever dated has admitted to thinking I was a jerk for
a day before they started liking me. So I suppose the first thing
people usually notice about me is jerkiness, but this usually goes
away.
My favorite books, movies, music, and food
My favorite living author now is
Michael Chabon; my very first
favorite author was
Douglas Adams, the only atheist to
make me believe in Heaven (because I would very much like to meet
him).
Here're the
last few books I've
finished:
And Another Thing..., Eoin Colfer
The Hound of the Baskervilles, Sir A.C. Doyle
The Uglies Trilogy, Scott Westerfeld
The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle
A Wrinkle in Time, Madeleine L'Engle
The Maltese Falcon, Dashiell Hammett
The Heir Trilogy, Cinda Williams Chima
The Old Man and the Sea, Ernest Hemingway
Atlas Shrugged, Ayn Rand
A Separate Piece, John Knowles
I've seen upwards of a thousand movies, many more than once. I was
in the process of compiling a list (with the help of my friends) of
all the movies I'd actually seen before my computer's hard drive
committed ritual suicide. My rule is that if I've seen a movie
more than
ten times and I still enjoy it, it is one of my favorite
movies. I believe 20 or so now fit this description - you're more
than welcome to ask me about them.
And here are the
last few movies I've seen:
Green Card
School of Life
Starman
Bounce
I'm Reed Fish
A Midsummer Night's Dream (1999)
The Great Escape
Meeting Venus
Closer
Legends of the Fall
It should be noted that I enjoy quite a bit of excellent television
through
primarily legal sources
primarily online.
I've recently become much less cynical and now enjoy all music,
including previously terrible pop music and the much-loathed
country music.
I suppose, though I enjoy a wide variety of foods, my favorites are
either in
pastry
form, or come from the
sea.
The six things I could never do without
Good stories, affection, offensive comedy, my sense of hearing (I
enjoy terribly trashy talk radio/
podcasts too much), the idea of the
wilderness and being able to
escape to it, and all the crazy things my
brain comes up with while I'm asleep.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
On a typical Friday night I am
This summer, my typical Friday night evolved to include a state of
Island
Living, the likes of which I had never known before - dancing,
breathing salted air, in a crowd of tanned
hips and shoulders. I have
since returned, healthy and renewed, to my city of choice, where on
a typical Friday night I am feeling confident.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit here
I have no weighty secrets waiting to be spilled. Privacy can only
be relinquished through shared trust and
conversation. Chat me up about it
and we'll see what comes up.
You should message me if

You feel so inclined.
