I host a damn good party, I like to go out with friends (especially
when there is live music involved), and I'm open to trying new
What I’m doing with my life
Programming by day. The plan is to start a company in a few years,
but for now, I'm acquiring the skills I'll need and enjoying the NY
I’m really good at
Breaking ice, putting myself in other people's shoes, and debating.
Not the "debate club" kind of debating, but the random discussion
over good beer variety. I also take pride in my programming and my
musical covers and compositions.
The first things people usually notice about me
If you meet me in a group, you'll probably notice my witty
interjections. If you meet me one on one, I'd like to think my
honesty and rationalism stand out the most. If you see me from
across the room, you'll only notice my roguishly good looks, but if
you come over to talk to me, I'll give you more to remember me by.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Music: Everything from Bluegrass/Folk to Symphonic Metal, to
instrumental acoustic guitar, to underground hip-hop, to pop punk,
to ... (just gonna stop here)
Movies: comedy and action mostly. Some good ones off the top of my
head are Clerks, The Dark Knight, Dr. Horrible's Singalong Blog,
and Gran Torino, but my movie tastes are more defined by what I
don't like, which is basically most movies that are described as
"Inspirational". Also, I love good standup. Mitch Hedberg, Eddie
Izzard, Louis CK, Tim Minchin, and Steve Hughes are my current
Shows: HIMYM, Sherlock, Community, Brooklyn 9-9, Doctor Who, Chuck,
Babylon 5, Farscape, Burn Notice, Bones, Game of Thrones, Buffy,
Firefly, and every other Joss Whedon TV show.
Books: Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, 1984, Brave New World,
Watchmen, His Dark Materials (The Golden Compass Trilogy), The
Abhorson Trilogy, Ender's Game, Dune, most Heinlein
Food: Food. all of it. (minus horseradish/wasabi)
The six things I could never do without
good friends, the internet, my health, my wits and really I think
that is it. (booze, my guitar, sex, and cuddling just barely missed
the cutoff, but they really just make a good life better)
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Part of being an engineer is wanting to improve and/or fix stuff.
Whenever I'm in a thinking mood, I turn that attitude towards the
big issues. Politics, religion, the economy, etc. I have some
strong opinions about some of that stuff (I'm a fairly liberal
atheist), but I know how to have a strong opinion without believing
it as fact. In practice, I get along pretty well with anyone that
follows the golden rule.
On a typical Friday night I am
Out drinking with friends, on skype with an old friend (potentially
also playing video games depending on the friend), or just curled
up in bed watching a TV show if it's been a long week.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
If you wanna make me tear up, show me a video of a deaf person
hearing for the first time thanks to modern medicine. It's my
You should message me if
If you are sapiosexual.
If you think chatting over drink or a meal is a way better way to
get to know someone than yelling at them over club music.
If you think that blues dancing is sexier than grinding.
And especially if you think it's a shame that people don't smile at
each other on the streets and subways of NYC.
