The haven of my soul is Prague. The good literatur has always
flourished here. Prague was home to the influential writers like
Kafka or Rilke. But Kafka and Rilke wrote in German. I´am
particularly interested in the time of the new wave of Czech
literature of the 60´s. I especially love novels by Bohumil Hrabal
("I Served the King of England") and Milan Kundera. Hrabal was a
genius of the play with a language, of a radical and subtle poetry,
of the Prague irony. His great stories about "little and
insignificant" people you will still read with a smile and
simultaneously with misty-eyes…
I also love the emotional intensity and the brilliant philosophical
speculations of Milan Kundera ("The Unbearable Lightness of
At the moment I read a very good book by German author Hanns-Josef
Ortheil "Liebesnähe" ("The Clossenes of Love"): The topic is the
mystery of the rapprochement between a man and a woman who feel a
magnetic mutual attraction since their first meeting …They
communicate WITHOUT words – using secret messages, books, musik,
exciting private stagings…The book illustrates that nonverbal
signals can be much stronger as words…
Another impressive plea for the sensitive use of language is the
book "Night train to Lisbon".
A book about power and violation of language, a literary sigh that
people talk to much and say nothing…
The thoughts about the use of language is a secondary aspect.
Above all, the novel is a moving appeal to the courage to
Caressing or passionate classical music, jazz, tango, gypsy music,
spanish ballads…Songs by Leonard Cohen…French chansons…
The music has to fit to my mood and to the surrounding. There are
so much images to music in my head, in my soul….Musik can build you
and make you cry. Musik can be a joy and passion and pain.
Live music of a special kind : Here in Munich, I like the relaxed
atmosphere in "my" beer garden where every weekend (in warm
weather) I can enjoy good jazz and blues, nice people AND good
german beer….Yes, then I´m a hedonist…
I like all the movies that express our emotions in a subtle way
such as "Amelie", "Out of Africa", "Life Is Beautiful". Also "The
Great Gatsby", in particular Robert Redford in the art deco setting
and costumes remains unforgotten for me...Apropos Robert Redfort:
For me, his masterwork - as a director as well as an actor - was
the movie "The Horse Whisperer", a great romance in the phantastic
nature with magic scenes...
I am a great fan of Czech films with poetic stories and grotesque
and absurd situations that are so typical for the Czech way of life
like the films by Jiri Menzel.
One of my favorites is called "Postriziny" (English title: CUTTlNG
A high sensuous pleasure - whether it is a stylish dinner in an
elegant atmosphere or a relaxing barbecue in garden or a picnic in
a mountain pasture or on the mountain top while hiking. There is
only the important precondition: enough time for enjoying and the
right partner(s) who appreciate(s) good food and drinks.
Nevertheless: The above mentioned culinary pleasures are rather
But what about the daily cooking routine? For me it is indeed
a really routine. However I always try to prepare meals with
creativity, imagination and joy…My credo: fresh ingredients, little
animal fats, vitamin-packed, richly varied…
In an deal case: Both partners enjoy to cook…and eat…
