Texas native, from that dirty third coast. Moved to Austin for school and fell in love.
I am a bass player- I learned playing jazz. punk and oldies but I can and like to play pretty much anything. Musical theatre and cruise ships were my last foray. (There is a reason I stopped) Now I'm back in the indie pool.
Other notable interests include -
Live music of all kinds. I don't believe in bad genres just bad bands NPR/community radio
Deep hangs with friends, friends are super important.
Travel (48 states, 16 other countries, and hoping to keep that number going up)
Raging- this has gotten smoother with age.
Going to a coffee shop for a good chat or reading sesh
The occasional romp through nature.
I'm also trying to embrace my inner introvert more lately.
What I’m doing with my life
Enjoying it. Trying to get the guitar to pay for that travel bug. Hustling to make that happen when it is not currently happening. I did nothing but play music the last 3 years. While it was fun it had me away from home too long at a time, and the environment got kind of old, so I'm taking some time back in Austin to chill and regroup and decide what the next step will be.
Locally, I play in a rock band that tours a good bit and a deep cut funk band where we dress weird (I usually go with the speedo that is covered in an amalgamation of apex predator cat patterns, or a large bear suit I inherited that kind of looks more like a beaver now)
I’m really good at
When I feel good about things, my hustle is strong. I can Geek TFO when it comes to history and science stuff
The first things people usually notice about me
That I look like Dave Grohl.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Music: Most things, but generally I like cuban (or most latin music actually) , electronica of all sorts but mainly IDM/DNB, da fawnk, jazz, grungier/indy/space/math rock, DJ Screw, hip hop, gangsta rap, oldies, outlaw country has a soft spot in my heart
Movies: Lots of stuff! Dark, sci-fi, funny. What we do in the shadows and Interstellar were my two favorite movies I've seen recently. Terry Gilliam is my favorite.
Books: Bukowski, Vonnegut, Rand, Hesse, Sheyngardt, Sedaris, some Murakame. Always looking for recommendations, I'm pretty behind on my books relative to these other categories. Also, lot's of nonfiction. I like history and science stuff.
Shows: The Wire, True Detective, Six Feet Under, Carnivale, Trailor Park Boys, some South Park, Planet Earth, Carl Sagan, Louie, 30 Rock, TED, Star Trek
Food: Pretty much anything, but Greek, Mexican, and Thai are my favorites.
The six things I could never do without
Music, good friends, good food, traveling and days off, faith (general not the religious type), hot showers
I spend a lot of time thinking about
The universe, other people and why they do what they do, bar vs work, why I think about that as much as I do, thinking about how sometimes I think too much. This is my most and least favorite question (;
On a typical Friday night I am
Playing a show. Usually hanging with my 9-5er friends or just enjoying a Friday off when that doesn't happen.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
Prior to moving to Austin in 2003, I grew up in a very small, very gun friendly town, and I have definitely shot animals. For food. Shooting for sport is fucked up. I actually lean vegetarian these days but I'm not strict.
You should message me if
Any of that piqued your interest. Most importantly, if you want to! While I am currently single and would like that to not be the case forever, I've met some awesome friends on here, if you are interested in anything listed above and would like to hang I'm all about meeting people.
