Your Notes
Edit your notesI am clever, kind, and genuine.
My Self-Summary
I work in video game design and I'm very passionate about it. I'm an avid reader. I love to listen to all sorts of music. I'd say I'm about a 50/50 mix of introvert and extrovert--I love hanging out with friends but am much more fond of small gatherings of friends at somebody's apartment than big parties and bars. I'm creative and fairly artistic. I love witty banter (though don't ask me to be witty prior to noon). I love language and words...and can sometimes be a bit of a spelling/grammar nazi. I've honestly never had much interest in sports myself, but don't have any problem with those who are into 'em.
I'm generally pretty patient and understanding with people. I'm a bit old-fashioned in some ways, which is hopefully charming rather than annoying. I'm responsible but sometimes lazy. I can be serious when necessary but am often either sarcastic or goofy.
Above all, I'd like to think that I'm genuine--despite my long list of faults and flaws, I put a lot of effort into making sure I'm never "fake" with anyone.
What I’m doing with my life
Back in 6th grade, I saw an ad for a program called "GameMaker" that let you make your own (very simple) video games. I asked for it for Christmas that year and quickly got my heart set on being a video game designer when I grew up.
Today, that's my profession. :) I tend to work more hours than I might like, and some parts of the job can be very stressful, but after four years in the industry I can still very confidently say that I love what I do.
I’m really good at
Apart from work stuff, let's see... I'm a pretty good actor (though it's been a few years since I last did any theatre), I'm a halfway decent artist, I'm a good sounding board for my friends' problems, I rock out in Rock Band 2 (guitar, bass, or vocals--keep me away from the drums!), and my level of skill at the party game Catch Phrase borders on the supernatural (seriously--I once correctly guessed the answer as "whiz kid" when the only clue was "Uh...cheese!").
The first things people usually notice about me
Nope, sorry, just kidding. Except about my eyes--they *totally* pierce souls.
My favorite books, movies, music, and food
Books:
I like an awful lot of books, but some favorites off the top of my head would be: the Riftwar Trilogy by Raymond Feist, anything by C.S. Lewis, Tales of the Otori by Lian Hearn, The Dragon & the George series by Gordon R. Dickson, the Pendragon Cycle by Stephen Lawhead, good ol' Harry Potter, Robin Hobb's Farseer Trilogy, and Without Remorse by Tom Clancy.
Movies:
There are tons I love, but a few are... Lord of the Rings, Stardust, Braveheart, Indiana Jones, Star Wars, The Princess Bride, The Rocketeer, Ghostbusters, The Three Musketeers, Garden State, V for Vendetta, Big Fish, Aladdin, The Count of Monte Cristo, Serenity, The Incredibles, Knocked Up, Quigley Down Under, Batman Begins, Pirates of the Caribbean, Love Actually, Spider-man...and, naturally, The Muppet Christmas Carol.
TV:
I'm generally more of a buy-a-whole-season-on-DVD guy than an actual live TV watcher, but the shows I've been into lately are How I Met Your Mother and Chuck. Some older shows I loved were Ed and Firefly. Recently I've been checking out Deadwood, Rome, and BSG via the miracle of Netflix.
Music:
My tastes are pretty eclectic. Some artists I like are Sister Hazel, Nickel Creek, The Weepies, Sara Bareilles, Lifehouse, Caedmon's Call, Rascal Flatts, The Shins, Brad Paisley, Weezer, Antje Duvekot, The Fray, Poets of the Fall, Denison Witmer, Schuyler Fisk, Joshua Radin...add to that a bit of classical, a lot of orchestral film scores, and a scattered assortment of Broadway soundtracks, and you can imagine my iPod's playlist.
Food:
I'm more of a picky eater than I'd like (this is a trait of mine that annoys me), but fortunately I tend to like at least *something* from every style of cuisine. Seafood and Italian are probably the two categories that I like the most in general. Lately I've been on a bit of a sushi kick.
The six things I could never do without
1. My family
2. My friends
3. Music
4. Books
5. Chances to be creative
6. Bacon*
* I'm only -slightly- kidding.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
On a typical Friday night I am
Generally, Saturday and Sunday are more my days for social stuff.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit here
The more I've experienced in my life and the more I've read of church history and theology, the more disconnected I've become from it, and at this point I'm honestly not sure I know what I believe anymore. Most people I know seem to be pretty comfortable in their beliefs--whether they be religious, atheistic, or simply apathetic--so sometimes this odd position halfway between faith and doubt can be a rather lonely place.
You should message me if
* You read the profile above and thought "I think I might like this guy if I met him!"
* You like both to talk and to listen--good conversation is high on my list of favorite things.
* You enjoy sarcasm.
* You're neither super-hardcore liberal nor overwhelmingly conservative--no offense intended, but people who are rabidly devoted to either camp tend to get on my nerves. An open mind and at least *some* degree of moderation make me happy. :)
