My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
Although I have since added to my dreams, at this point in my life, I am the three things I have always wanted to be: a mother, a teacher, and a gardener. I hold a Ph.D. in contemporary American literature as well as several advanced degrees. I am fluent in Spanish and have studied voice performance (at the moment, I’m in love with Handel), run my own catering company, and completed several half marathons. I’m working my way through my bucket list. In about five years or so, I should need to write another one. Recently, I’ve embraced yoga and counseling as essential exercises in presence and self-awareness. I’ve invested in bee boxes and, this spring, I will take classes in how to tend an apiary. I have completed my first novel and have begun a second one. I believe in doing something every day that either scares or challenges me.
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
I teach college writing and literature and juggle the work that affords me a living with the passions that feed my soul: writing, running, cooking, singing, quilting, gardening. Being a good mother is the most important thing I have ever done with my life, as well as the most fulfilling and challenging. In the early hours of the morning, I research and write novels.
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
Teaching allows me to combine my passion with the practical necessity of earning a living. I have been praised (and awarded) for my skills as a college professor and have yet to leave a class not feeling the "high" of scintillating conversation, a dynamic exchange of energy, and the satisfaction of having been a part of something larger than myself and so soul-gratifying.

I'm a good mother and strive to nurture my daughter with love, affection, discipline, understanding, and education.

I have a penchant for the theatrical--this extends to my descriptions of literature, my animation when I tell a story, my zeal of living, and my engagement with the world.

I am a baker, a connoisseur of fine foods (I love to develop and execute meals of gastronomical sensation), a gardener, a quilter, an opera-singer, and a poet.
The first things people usually notice about me
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
Genetics has graced me with blue, blue eyes. I take care of my body and value my health as a well-spring of energy and vibrant charisma. After the physical impression, most people feel at ease around me. I try to be as empathic and loving as possible so as to make people around me know they will be accepted regardless of race, religion, or sexual orientation.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Help your potential matches find common interests.
I completed my dissertation on Toni Morrison, so she's without a doubt one of my favorite novelists. Michael Ondaatje writes exquisite prose. I cried at the end of Rory Stewart’s The Places in Between.

I am eclectic in my tastes of music (from opera to Janis Joplin, John Denver to Adele) and, with hesitation, admit I know way too many Broadway show-tunes.

My guilty pleasure is watching Scandal and I fell in love with the series Friday Night Lights on Netflix. My favorite movies in recent years have been The Departed, Gladiator, Casino Royale, Crazy Stupid Love, and Bridesmaids. My "classic" favorite movies include Romancing the Stone, The Sound of Music, Out of Africa, and Tootsie.

For food, I love so much (including cilantro), salads, hearty soups, dessert, and chocolate.

I love the outdoors, doing anything physical: running through mud puddles in the spring, gardening and swimming in the summer, hiking and raking in the fall, and cross country skiing in the winter.
The six things I could never do without
Think outside the box. Sometimes the little things can say a lot.
1. Cup after cup of steaming tea and then, some coffee.
2. My running shoes (asics gel nimbus).
3. Lemons, garlic, salt, fresh black pepper, and olive oil (you can make anything taste good with these ingredients). Plus, apples. because I love them.
4. Dental floss.
5. Touch and intimacy
6. Pen, paper, and a good dictionary.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Global warming, lunch, or your next vacation… it’s all fair game.
Current events. Where to find a really good cup of coffee. Can I get away with wearing red lipstick? My daughter. Literature. What's for dinner? How can I get a run in before the rain, the dark?
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
I keep my fingernails short. I relish the sensuality of perfume on my pulse points. I have a secret disdain of anyone who drinks flavored coffee. I don’t mind bringing politics to the dinner table. I find throw-away, plastic water bottles offensive. I believe the best seduction requires both physical and articulate expression.

I would like to be able to get out more often and enjoy some meaty conversation, some hearty flirtation, and perhaps encounter a love that can grow deep and prove both passionate and a beautiful friendship.
