My self-summary
I like my self-summarys like I like my women.. short and sweet.

That's silly.

I like rye whiskey and motorcycles.

I would think that's all you really need to know..

..but if you're the inquisitive type and want to know more before a marriage proposal, please ask.

Photos will speak more eloquently than I will. To save you from listening to me ramble on about myself, I uploaded (what I believe to be) an adequate amount for your viewing pleasure. No need to thank me. I thank you for stopping by my profile.

If it's not here, I wish you luck in finding cupids arrow.
What I’m doing with my life
Learning from my mistakes (hopefully). I paint to support my hobbies and pay the mortgage. Commercially. Not artistically. That would be pretty neat though, wouldn't it?
I’m really good at
Making grilled cheese sandwiches (and eating them).
The first things people usually notice about me
I haven't a clue. Maybe my hair? It has a nice shiny premature silver patina. The last time I had my hair cut professionally was 2 or 3 years ago, and the stylist at the time asked if I wanted to dye it (or highlight it…?!?!?… highlight the grey.. why would i do that?). I hear unnaturally salt and peppering your hair is becoming a hip thing for the hipsters to be doing these days though. That's what my NYC friends tell me anyway. I digress... I of course said "No. I think it's plenty visible without highlighting it, and I'm fine with the grey. It's been with me for so many years now that I don't really notice it." She replied, "Yeah, that just happens once you get over 40." Woah.. back up.. and come again? Over what?… exactly how old do you think I am miss lady? I think you just lost your tip (kaboom! i'm kidding. I still gave her too large of a tip). I think what made it so much worse was that she was clearly older than me. If she was 18 or so I could shrug it off, ya know? Blame her ignorant youngness. If I had to guess though, I would've said she was over 40.. but I would not have guessed that because I would err on the side of caution. Especially to a paying, tipping customer. I didn't take this as personal as I'm making it sound. It's become too common of an occurrence for me to take too personally anymore. She's far from alone in misjudging my age. I've been mistaken for my dads brother on more than one occasion. I hope you're laughing about that (as I cry on the inside), but.. seriously..? If you mistakenly believe I've been around for somewhere in the vicinity of 60 years, you best also believe I'm the best looking grandpa you've ever seen. You shouldn't judge a book by its cover. Unless it's cover is all wrinkly and liver spotted.. and I supposed grey haired. It makes sense. I forgive them. I'm done complaining now.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
the big lebowski, the wire, it's always sunny, walking dead, breaking bad, x-files, sherlock, lord of the rings, bill bryson, kurt vonnegut, micheal pollan, radiohead, wilco, pearl jam (in my youth.. they're awful now. Sorry PJ), black keys, sigur ros, arcade fire, the national, wolf parade, coen brothers, christopher nolan, martin scorsese usually makes things worth watching, mythbusters, this american life, radiolab, stuff you should know, WTF (with marc maron), <==these are podcasts. the list goes on... favorites tend to be momentary. oh, and yeah i like food. lately it's been bluegill and sushi. but not bluegill sushi.
The six things I could never do without
In a peculiar order:
my dog
musical somethings
fly rod
a good pair of socks (or maybe other people.. it's a toss up)
I spend a lot of time thinking about
How people can believe that being gay is a choice. I have had days where I've wondered if being gay wouldn't be easier. Unfortunately, this decision seems to have been made for me, and I only have one option (which means I don't have a choice). I think about this ALL of the time. Ok, I just thought about it right now… and maybe I'll think about it 5 or 6 more times in the next 15 years. I don't know what I think about a lot of the time, but I'm sure it's not very important. I should be thinking about how many more times I can get away with texting while driving (a stick shift… as I'm eating lunch... and futzing with the radio... and realizing I don't have my seatbelt on… so now I'm also trying to put my seatbelt on…but it's stuck in the door…and I'm doing 70mph, so the door is hard to open…and I'm trying to keep my dog from bumping the shifter as he claims the rest of my lunch by licking it (unfairly) like a 5 year old), before I crash and burn. Which I would think should save on the cremation expense involved with my death. Accent the positive. I do wonder what my dog does all day? Is today one of those days that he feels the need to leave a little poop present in the basement for me? Why does he do that periodically? It's an odd gesture from mans best friend. It's hard to feel like the dominant, pack leading, alpha male while picking up your followers shit (while he watches without so much as offering a hand). He always manages to make up for it, however, by forcing a smile on my face whenever I get home. Maybe your best friend is someone that can make you smile even after just pooping on your floor. Digested food for thought. I can't believe you're still reading this. I'm actually not all that talkative in person, but I seem to vomit out whatever's floating around in my head on paper. Sorry.
On a typical Friday night I am
in, out, music, drinking, sleeping, netflixing, bbqing, fish frying.. typical friday night stuff. the comedy club is usually a good time. puzzles are an exciting way to spend a wintery friday evening.. right? Or maybe a heated game of backgammon? or chess? it's non stop action with me. I would understand if you can't keep up.
