I grew up in rural Tennessee, though as you can see from the profile, I'm not a typical Tennessee-native. I'm queer (or bisexual, though I don't really like that word), polyamorous, pretty kinky, and an esoteric Discordian. I waffle between being an INTJ and an INFJ on the Myers-Briggs depending on the particular questionnaire.

I like toys. A lot.

I love travel and would like to spend a lot more time in Eastern Europe.

I'm militantly agnostic.

I believe very strongly in science but don't have quite as much confidence in its results being reported without cultural bias.

I'm a pragmatist and enjoy political discussions that focus on nuts-and-bolts details over grand theory. I have strong anarchist sympathies, but in practice I'm more of a European-style social democrat than anything else. I'll agree that the government pretty much sucks, but tell me how you want to handle hospitals, power, sewage and water treatment before you advocate abolishing it.

I'm fascinated by propaganda and rhetoric.

I am currently involved in long-term relationships (with haileris and darkmoon, BTW, in case you're curious) and am not specifically looking for romantic entanglement, but then again, I wasn't looking for them, either. After spending close to a decade working in various tech-related fields I'm in the process of a career change. I'm endeavoring to chart the course to becoming a hybrid of Joseph Campbell and Andy Warhol, with a dash of Wile E. Coyote thrown in for good measure. In less poetic terms terms, I'm trying to draw a bead on precisely where in the soup of academia my research interests would end up being labelled; as near as I can tell, it's somewhere between sociology, cultural anthropology and communications. (My previous academic background is in communications and political science.)

I'm particularly interested in the societal and legal ramifications of copyright and intellectual property, especially in the chilling effect that the [mis}use of IP laws has had on public discourse. I'm not sure I have quite enough drive to do the law school thing, but, considering my interests, it's an attractive option.

I enjoy conventions and conferences, and have presented on using illegal art, culture jamming, and memetic piggybacking as strategies to pursue social change at venues as diverse as EsoZone in Portland, Oregon, the Chaos Communications Conference in Berlin, Germany, and Pantheacon in San Jose, CA.

I spend a lot of time thinking about how to be my bisexual, poly, non-monogamous self without being "one of THOSE guys". It seems tricky to be sexually confident and assertive without being "sleazy" if one is genetically male.
