I am mild, medium, and hot.
My Self-Summary
I'm a 27 year old college grad (Stanford, '04...so I act much more
Cali than DC), I'm into indie movies in general, I keep my TV dial
stuck on Comedy Central and Food TV, I like alt/indie rock and
underground hip-hop (I freestyle rap, sortof;) as well as some
mainstream groups, and I love to cook. I'm currently working for a
small company that provides HR Diversity services to the
broadcasting industry, although I'm looking for my "dream job"
within a nonprofit org to help change the world for the better. I'm
basically just looking to meet people, chat, make new friends,
date, network, whatever...
And to allay any suspicion, my screen name on here is a Method Man
reference, and has absolutely nothing to do with crystal
meth/amphetamines. I've never tried them or any other hard drugs
(although I don't have a problem being friends with people who
have).
What I’m doing with my life
***updating my profile on here...stay tuned for a refresh with all
current info!***
First of all, check out my Flickr! account (
http://www.flickr.com/photos/methticalman)
if you're bored...as a photodiary, it's much more fresh (and
probably more fun) than this profile. Plus, a single picture says
1000 words, which saves me the time of writing more of these:
------------------------------
I'm somewhere along my transition from the college mindset to the
daily grind of the working life. I graduated from Stanford in 2004
with a B.A. in Science, Technology, & Society (STS). Right out
of school I tested the waters as one of 120,000 people working for
a huge consulting firm. My project there was within the Department
of Education, so wasn't anything heartless like weapons or border
wall construction...but it was a pretty typical corporate
environment of sustainable mediocrity, plus it could've use a bit
more soul. So I left after a year and a half to find my calling,
and do some good for the world.
I'm currently working for a small company that promotes diversity
in the broadcasting industry, although I'm still searching for my
perfect job/career where I'll be able to be creative, challenged,
busy, motivated, intellectually engaged, and all that, while
helping to make a difference for a good cause. I'd be particularly
excited to get involved with communications or development for a
liberal/progressive nonprofit, or maybe policy research/analysis
for a think tank that focuses on social justice, education, the
environment or another ethical cause that I can get behind.
After a few months at work, I moved from local suburbia into an
apartment in DC and love it. Well, it also kinda gets a bit lonely
sometimes after spending four years of college roommates and the
infinite distractions a dorm brings. But it's sweet having a place
of my own (until the lease is up, at least).
Outside work, I've been doing some healthy, creative cooking both
to pass the time and for meals. That and Comedy Central, Food TV,
and trying to pull people from their jobs to chill;-)
If you can give me a kick in the ass, I make a great travel partner
for road trips, summer drives, or whatever spontaneity brings to
us. Or to answer this question more simply: just trying to enjoy
life to the fullest.
I'm LIVIN...

I’m really good at
being
random,
FIFA 2002,
basketball and
football (good at
a non-Varsity level),
sleeping, sending e-mails, being
considerate, cooking,
mixing drinks,
freestylin', taking care of
my friends, just
chilling with them, being me, and
more...
The first things people usually notice about me
Probably my expressive eyebrows or my smile. Hopefully my radiant
soul. Maybe just my shoes, shirt, jeans, or something...but I'll
ask around and report back.
*In
NYC, my former
roommie said I was very "
alternative" while we were looking
at shirts in Urban Outfitters...I don't know what he meant by
that.*
Personality wise, I can be kinda quiet and somewhat random. I guess
as people get to know me they realize that I can be really funny
with calculated randomness, and that while I may not be the best
conversation starter, I am really engaging once you get me going.
And chatty...I am happy to just keep you company, even if we don't
touch on anything important and just go from random topic to
topic.
But just go ahead and break me out of my shell. Or at least out of
my pants.

I’m especially into seeing bands play live, although I've been
slacking on making it to enough shows, given how close I am to
9:30 and
Black Cat. In general I'm
into
Rap,
Hip-Hop,
Rock/
Modern Rock,
Alternative,
Techno/
Electronic/
Ambient,
Jazz,
Funk,
Dance, especially when there's an
indie/
underground slant. I
also don't mind
Classic Rock,
Reggae, and admittedly some Pop, and
I'm slowly trying to develop my appreciation for Classical music. I
used to be less keen on Country and that sort of twangy music, but
as long as I can joke about it when it sucks, I don’t mind hearing
some now and then;-) And since seeing Bunny Rabbit flow over "Sweet
Home Alabama" in 8 Mile, and then chilling in Nashville, TN on a
road trip home from Cali, Country's A-Ok.
But I pretty much HATE the music industry these days...fucking
corporate assclowns in there. But then again living in DC, some
might say I should get used to the power structure.
(d) I like the usual stuff, but I eat healthy because I do other
unhealthy things and I think finding a balance is a positive thing.
My staple is
Chipotle. Specifically a
bol, lite on rice, beans,
fajitas,
chicken (double sometimes),
mild, corn,
guac,
lettuce, and a dousing of chipotle
Tabasco.
Ahi tuna is another favorite, but is more
special. I'm down often enough for pizza, doughnuts, cheesecake,
pasta, and whatever else I want but I try not to overindulge too
often. Also, I like cooking and find it a chance to be creative and
productive in that I can come up with my own recipes for healthy
and/or delicious foods. Yeah, I guess I'm a
foodie as much as I hate the word.
The six things I could never do without
(In no particular order) #1:
Family #2:
Friends #3
(Post-)Modern convenience,
comfort, and luxury through
technology (not ashamed to admit it)
#4:
Eating,
drinking, and breathing #5: Life's mysteries (including
art,
religion,
science, human
nature, etc.) #6:
Individuality
Could you be lucky #7? Hey...remember I said it wasn't in any
particular order. Could you debut at #1 in order of preference?
Publisher's Clearing House says you already have!
I spend a lot of time thinking about
The meaning of life (only some guiding ideas, no certain
conclusions yet), why we're here, our country's problems, global
problems, inequality, social stratification,
happiness, ways to hopefully
change the world,
bush/mccain:( ,
obama:) , an
end to the 2-party
system:D,
rap
lyrics,
rock riffs and drum solos,
partying, the
future, my future,
the past,
girls,
being
single.
I care about
politics, or at least political issues
and trying to do some
good based on
logic;
openmindedness, upholding of
liberty,
ethics,
justice, and prevention of harm to
people's ability to live
happy, safe lives that provide maximum
opportunity to develop as an individual. I'm aware that this is
just my
philosophy, and not the
Way...but it's grounded and at
least somewhat thought-out, so I like to talk about it sometimes.
So if you're aggressively apolitical, beware.
Now don't you just want to get inside my head?
On a typical Friday night I am
Going out to
bars and
lounges in DC (I'm so down
with
H Street NE)
then coming back to wind down, surrounded by friends, and maybe a
few more
beers if we
paced ourselves accordingly in DC. Sometimes watching
movies, sometimes renting
them. Rarely watching
TV. Sometimes just sticking to
Bethesda or
Rockville. On special
occasions, stepping off the Amtrak line onto the
Penn Station platform in NYC.
Jetting down to visit my little sister in
New Orleans now and then.
But for the most part, the only constant is that I'm always looking
to have fun...week to week I find myself up to a pretty varied set
of activities.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit here
that I talk to myself while I'm alone to help myself de-stress and
get my thoughts in order. The more embarrasing part is that
sometimes it happens when I only *think* I'm alone. Luckily it
hasn't happened on film at least...Bob Sagat from America's
Funniest Home Videos from Full House would eat that up. I know I'm
not the only one, but I notice when it becomes silly and I'm not
afraid to share.
I have other funny but embarrasing stories that I'd share if you
pried. Ask about: the
colored pencil, my
international travel,
or about why I'm such a big fan of red and white stripes. I'm an
open,
honest
person, so go on and ask about these hints above -- or whatever
else you may be curious about...
You should message me if
you're fun, openminded, chill, outgoing, smart, geeky,
intellectual, creative, artistic, punkish, indie, alt, and/or
local...and you think we'd hit it off -- either as friends or
something more. Maybe message me if I've messaged you
before...reciprocation is friendly! Message me if you can forgive
that my profile hasn't been fully updated in what's certainly way
too long. Or message me if I haven't messaged you yet...I'm not
psychic (honest!) and if you think we'd click, letting me know
would also be a nice thing to do for us.
And FYI: unlike some vehement woo-hataz, I don't really have
anything against getting "wooed" on here even though they're little
nothings, kindof bland as far as information, feeling, or content
go...still, if your profile says something about you, I dont mind
if you woo me to get my attention. And please forgive me if I woo
you...I try to avoid them, but sometimes I just don't know what to
say, other than something "I checked out your profile and you seem
cool...wanna chat?" And that's what a woo does.
I tend to
vibe well
with people who are: somewhat more outgoing than I am, and good at
asking deep, engaging questions to
spark really interesting conversations.
Generally, I'm into hanging out with people between 21 and 30ish,
in the DC Area,
liberal,
indie,
pierced and/or
tattooed (I don't have any myself as of
now but I'm pretty open to getting a piercing in particular),
not-too-hardcore-
punk,
artistic, balanced, out of the
ordinary, and/or ultra-
cute.
Also, I joined a gym network (Results and most WSC locations) and
am trying to go 3x/week, plus I'm thinking about running a couple
days each week on top of that...so let me know if you want to be
workout buddies.
