My self-summary
It’s important to me to show kindness and respect wherever I can, and treat life with humor and gentleness. That said, I can be terribly snarky and sarcastic. We’re swimming in absurdity, people, and what fun it is. Very little in this world has to be taken seriously, so we might as well enjoy the ride.

I am a geek-appreciator, and have some fairly nerdy tendencies.

I’m incredibly grateful for my friends, who help get me out of my head. I can think things to death.

I'm a Traditional Chinese Medicine practitioner (read: acupuncturist and herbalist). I love my job, though perhaps too much. Sticking needles in people is challenging and rewarding. It’s like having real-life voodoo dolls. Seriously, I treasure my patients. I am always learning from, and being inspired by them. I’m attempting to bring more balance to my life, or at the very least have more enjoyment outside of work.

Food is Fun, and I’m always trying to learn something new. America’s Test Kitchen is like porn to me.

I require a chaperone and/or restraints when visiting hardware stores, purveyors of kitchen gadgets, or animal shelters, lest I come home with something that I clearly don’t need but seems essential at the time. C’mon, who doesn’t want a lemon reamer and a new puppy?

I appreciate a good conversation on any topic. If I have nothing to contribute, I'll be grateful nonetheless for what I can learn.

Connecting as friends is important for me, regardless of what may follow thereafter. I'm loyal, affectionate, funny (often unintentionally), serious and goofy all at the same time.
What I’m doing with my life
Spending too much time at work. Trying to be a better person.
I’m really good at
I knit like a mofo
Finding your ouchie spots (hey, God gave me that gift, so don't judge)
Finding the good in others
Staying up past my bedtime
The first things people usually notice about me
I couldn't even begin to know how to answer that question. My laugh has been described as "deep-rooted" - not sure if that's a compliment, but you'll likely hear me coming from a ways off.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Music: Yes. Yes, more please. For the "don't leave home without it" collection: Lyle Lovett, Gourds, Gram Parsons, Neko Case, Gillian Welch, Lucinda Williams, Cracker, old Stevie Wonder, Aretha Franklin, Big Star, Loudon Wainwright III, PJ Harvey. Lately, First Aid Kit, Seu Jorge, various and sundry piano concertos, and De Phazz have been in heavy rotation. I've found that the best new music is found through other people. Making a mix tape is a cheap way to get my undying admiration.

Lately I've been reading much more non-fiction and medically-related books, but I have always loved fiction. I have a bad habit of sacrificing sleep because I can't put down a book. Garcia Marquez, Christopher Moore, Tara Brach, Mark Helprin are favorites.

Movies: anything and everything, with the exception of horror - the boogie man *will* get me. Documentary, sci-fi, action, art, indie, foreign, fantasy, historical drama, comedy. Pretty much anything with a modicum of intelligence behind it.

I only watch what I can stick into my dvd player or stream on Netflix, so I get very little in the way of TV. That said, I'm impatiently waiting for Breaking Bad's next season, and will frequently curse the gods that dropped Arrested Development and Deadwood. Update: Arrested Development is back for a season! I am appeased.

I don't eat gluten, but other than that, I'll try three bites of most anything. Thai, Indian, tapas are all good in my book. I was a vegetarian for many years, so I'm making up for some lost meat. I'm not a great cook, but I enjoy it, especially learning different techniques. Currently, I'm trying to master macarons and brewing my own kombucha.
The six things I could never do without
People/animals to love
While I don't need things, I think I'd go a little nutty if I didn't listen to music every day.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
People - what they do, and why
Trying to solve patient issues
Obscure mathematical problems
How to build a better piece of furniture (yes, with my own two hands)
On a typical Friday night I am
trying to get to bed early enough that I'm able to get enough sleep to get through work on Saturday without killing anyone.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
If I admit it, it's no longer private. I'm an open book. I'm wired such that I feel compelled to answer any direct question, even if I don't want to. If you want to know something, just ask.
