My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
I'm one of those guys that likes to be a bit of a contradiction in terms. I can be shy and quiet at times, yet often I work in the public eye in which case I'm loud and gregarious. I'm very sociable, but can also be a computer hermit. I am conservative by nature (sort of), but very liberal minded and not afraid to speak my mind or try new things. I seem like a serious guy most of the time, but I can also be utterly ridiculous and laugh at myself far too often, plus I only like to post silly pictures of myself. p.s. I'm not actually a duck, you have to click the picture to see more.

I'm currently in school plodding away at the PhD. When I put the books away though, my life mostly revolves around dancing and music. Beyond that, I also spend my weekends volunteering and working with kids. Teaching is a very big part of what I do, whether that be through dance, as a university sessional instructor, or with kids.

Work and school are synonymous for me. I have my own place, a garden, pay my bills, have a car, no kids, don't smoke, don't drink, don't do drugs. I lead a busy life, but I manage my time well.

Fitness is important to me. I used to be a big guy, until I finally kicked myself in the ass and dropped 50 lbs in a year. I do have a love for eating though, so it's a bit of a give'n'take battle there. Most of my exercise is through dance and calisthenics, though I've been doing yoga for a couple years as well.

I am ostentatious, pretentious, and sesquipedalic
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
I work, I dance, and I teach.

I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
- taking things apart, not so much the other way around
- random trivia, but I suck at Jeopardy
- organizing and delegating
- explaining complex things in simple terms
- polka (ok that's not quite true, but after attending a few dozen socials and weddings you pick up a few tricks)
- pash without the dash
The first things people usually notice about me
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
My awesome ninja powers... which is to say they don't notice me at all until it's too late. Then blam! Face full of Asian.

(ooookay, that sounded way dirtier than it should have been)
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Help your potential matches find common interests.
books: I used to read all the standard fantasy stuff like Piers Anthony and Anne McCaffrey; never liked Tolkien though. The last fiction I read was probably Douglas Copeland. Outside of that, I'm also a pretty big fan of comics; everything from newspaper comics to webcomics to the superhero stuff.

movies: I don't even remember when was the last time I went to the movie theatre... maybe for Avengers? Yeah, it's been a while.

music: a little bit of everything really... classical, jazz & big band, jukebox, chillout/lo-fi, folk, acoustic, old R&B, classic rock, even a tiny bit of country sneaks in sometimes

food: I grew up in the north end, so am just as happy with perogies as I am with fried rice. I'm a total foodie though, and am a fairly adventurous eater and enjoy trying out new restaurants around town. No fast food though, and I don't drink. I try to be fairly health conscious, with the occasional liberties of course.
The six things I could never do without
Think outside the box. Sometimes the little things can say a lot.
- my piano (built in 1905!)
- differential calculus
- the internet (wikipedia has replaced my higher brain functions, and I'm pretty sure youtube has replace the lower ones)
- music and dancing
- books
- dental floss
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Global warming, lunch, or your next vacation… it’s all fair game.
my purpose - as it pertains to me and how I relate to the world
phase transformations and cyclic strain based recrystallization and deformation of nickle based superalloys

not necessarily in that order
On a typical Friday night I am
Netflix and takeout, or getting your party on — how do you let loose?
dancing or teaching dance
building or modifying something
playing a vengeful game of Settlers of Catan
at the symphony or theatre
chasing dragonflies (or hiding from mosquitoes)
did I mention eating?
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
I've suffered from eating disorders in the past (I used to be a pretty big guy). It was a low point in my life, but I've come a long way and I'm proud of what I've accomplished since then. I'm a stronger person having overcome that, and it allows me to use it as a stepping stone to understanding and counseling others.

Offer a few tips to help matches win you over.
you like your guys well educated and well spoken
you are family minded
you don't mind a little partnered dance from time to time
you like to keep fit and have fun (goooo Body Break!)
you're smart enough to figure out that there's an entire picture story hidden in there
you know what "roll for initiative" means
you know the difference between Watership and Waterdeep

I'm not looking for someone to keep up with me and my wacky antics. That's not how it works. I'm looking for someone who has a life of their own but is willing to take some time and explore the middle ground, then see where it goes from there.

Or maybe you think I'm interesting and would just like to chat. That's cool too.
