I am creative, funny, and smart.

My Self-Summary

UPDATE: i'm on 2-month trip to southeast asia between mid-january and mid-march, so i won't be around for a while.

i'm a dreamer lucky enough to live in a city i love (san francisco) and work in something i'm passionate about (music).

i've lived here for 10 years. technically, i moved from washington, d.c., but like many people in san francisco, i grew up in the boston area (though i escaped with no accent). i long ago adjusted to the weather here, but i do miss the colors of the leaves changing in new england and the feel of spring in washington, d.c.

What I’m doing with my life

still trying to figure that one out -- i'm making it up as i go along.

at this point, i feel like i *know* san francisco, so over the past year i've been trying to explore it in new and different ways (on my bike, through pictures -- you name it) and meet new people along the way who are alive, interesting and interested.

I’m really good at

making playlists, mix CDs and the odd mixtape. talking about music. seeing music. laughing. drinking. dancing. staying up late. making out. falling asleep. dreaming. waking up. singing in the shower. drinking coffee. driving fast, with the sunroof open and the windows down. writing. playing music really, really loud. sitting in dolores park. reading the sunday new york times. giving massages. also, puns.

The first things people usually notice about me

i don't know -- i've never asked. hopefully my sense of humor.

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

i listen to music constantly, see as much live music as i can, and am constantly making mixes for friends, co-workers and anyone else i think might care (and listen). right now, i'm listening to a lot of phoenix, the raveonettes, the horrors, stars, the xx, frightened rabbit, phantogram, wilco and, curiously, early 70s neil young. i am also a huge fan of my bloody valentine and early 90s indie bands like swirlies, lilys and small factory.

i also love watching movies, at home or on the big screen. my favorites so far this year are "the fantastic mr. fox," "revanche" and "still walking." and i really enjoyed seeing "mean streets" at the castro theater recently.

i love brunch, so on the weekend you'll find me at boogaloo's or chloe's or kate's kitchen or mabel's just for you. you get the idea--i like saturdays, sundays and pancakes. for dinner, i'm currently loving beretta, nopa, uva and starbelly. really, though, i'm just a sucker for anyplace with atmosphere, strong cocktails and a decent wine list.

i'm not much of a tv guy, honestly, though i do love watching a few shows. like anyone/everyone else these days, i watched the new season of mad men and had a summer fling with true blood. my all-time favorites are/were arrested development, curb your enthusiasm, the daily show, and --back in the day-- mr. show with bob (odenkirk) and david (cross). and given where i live, i have a fondness for watching old episodes of the streets of san francisco, to see what the city looked like in the early 1970s and wonder who thought it was a good idea to build an elevated highway above the embarcadero.

my all-time favorite authors are george saunders, john irving, david sedaris and kurt vonnegut. this year, i liked "the road" for the three hours it took me to read it, and i'm currently reading "cassettes from my ex" (not a novel but still pretty great). i'm not as much of a reader as i used to be -- music keeps me busy.

The six things I could never do without

music, laughter, sunshine, love, sex, good friends, and family (in no particular order). ok, you got me, that's seven. but i challenge you to tell me any of those aren't essential.

I spend a lot of time thinking about

music and the business of music...my friends and the people in my life... travel and traveling with my friends... and (secretly) politics and the state of the world.

On a typical Friday night I am

some combination of eating dinner, having drinks, watching movies, or seeing concerts, usually with friends and sometimes solo. i like spending time on my own.

The most private thing I’m willing to admit here

maybe later
