My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
This is a work in progress, just like the rest of my life. I've been on Okcupid for a couple of years, but I've just never gotten around to writing these essays.

I'm a lighting designer, working in western NC for a large lighting manufacturer.
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
Working as a lighting designer so that I can support my addictions to photography and books. I like to travel around the Carolinas, Georgia and east Tennessee to take landscape and macro shots. I even took a vacation to Hawaii just to take photos. I collect modern first editions, though that has slowed down since I bought a Nook.

I sing in my church choir--not particularly well, but I'm there most Sundays.
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
Making snide remarks, usually at my own expense. Staring at nothing while thinking, "I should have brought my camera."
The first things people usually notice about me
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
Probably my mustache, since most guys don't wear only mustaches anymore. Maybe my glasses, since when paired with my nose and mustache, it sometimes looks like I'm wearing a Groucho Marx face.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Help your potential matches find common interests.
Authors: Ian Rankin, Robert A. Heinlein, Lee Smith, S.M. Stirling, J.R.R. Tolkien, Harper Lee, John Sandford, and too many others to mention.

Music: My musical tastes seemed to have stopped progressing about 1995. It isn't that I don't like some new music, but my iPod has an awful lot of older stuff on it. Like: The Beatles, Steely Dan, Miles Davis, Herbie Hancock, Bruce Springsteen, John Mellencamp, Porcupine Tree, Oleta Adams, Opeth. It's a strange mix I admit, but that's me.

Movies: Apocalypse Now, Looper, the Harry Potter films (for the kid in me), The Big Sleep, Casablanca.
The six things I could never do without
Think outside the box. Sometimes the little things can say a lot.
My cameras
My cat
Books, both physical and electronic
Good friends
My MINI and the freedom it affords me
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Global warming, lunch, or your next vacation… it’s all fair game.
*Why I didn't bring my camera with me today.
*The nature of the universe or universes and why didn't I take astrophysics courses so I could understand the scientific papers (oh, that's right, I would have had to have taken a lot more MATH)
*How lucky I am to live in the Blue Ridge mountains
*How when I say I am "lucky" about something, I usually mean "blessed"
On a typical Friday night I am
Netflix and takeout, or getting your party on — how do you let loose?
Going out to dinner, then going home to play with my camera and talk to my cat, Tucker. Occasionally, I am packing up my camera gear for a Saturday day trip. Once in a while, I am working in Photoshop or Apple Aperture, processing some pictures I've taken recently. Less often now, going to Barnes and Noble for coffee and a photo magazine.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
I'm a Nikonian.

You think we have enough in common to talk for more than ten minutes (I admit it: I often don't talk a lot and sometimes run out of things to say)

A friend of mine recently pointed out that I was doing what she referred to as "masturdating", i.e. doing all the things one normally does with others, only by oneself. Like, going out to dinner alone, going to movies alone, taking nice vacations alone, etc. Help me break out of this rut!!! lol
