My Self-Summary

Hi everyone. I'm a 24-year-old guy originally from Louisiana who spent 9 of the past 10 years in Connecticut, completing high school at a boarding school there and studying theater and mathematics at Wesleyan University. I've only just moved back to my home state last year, and while it's good to be home, I'm feeling a little lost socially. :)

My last serious relationship ended last year after it became long-distance. Now I'm hoping to find someone whose plans for the future more closely match mine. I am very family-oriented, hoping to become a husband and a father within the next several years, and I hope to find a partner who stimulates and challenges me intellectually and emotionally.

What I’m doing with my life

Well, I was a manager at Circuit City, selling electronics and loving it (this was a surprise to me...I thought I'd hate that job). Sadly, Circuit City is no more, and I'm searching for my next job. Hopefully, I'll be able to find a job in graphic design or in something else a little more creative.

In the mean time, doing some freelance design work and putting in job applications.

Other than that, I spend a lot of time with my (very large) family: three of my four younger siblings (age 7, 13, 18) live in Lafayette, as do my mom and stepdad. So much time is spent playing Rock Band and Wii with them.

On Thursday nights, I make my way over to Daiquiris Supreme to rock their karaoke night. It's pretty awesome, and I've developed quite a repertoire over the past several months.

I’m really good at

...announcing sporting events (ask me to do my announcer voice).
...directing plays and acting.
...making people laugh.
...designing lights for theater and dance.
...singing (well, only karaoke or Rock Band).
...reading people's emotions.
...visual and graphic design.
...helping friends through difficult situations.

...um...filling out online profiles??

The first things people usually notice about me

My eyes, or the fact that I can make strange first impressions. I'm a very animated and out-there individual, so when I meet someone for the first time, but they're with a bunch of people I'm already comfortable with, the results can be hilarious...or disastrous...

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

Books...hmm...I wish I read more, to be honest, but the novel Wicked is absolutely brilliant, and I read it before I saw the musical. The book is much better.

I love many movies, but I find myself drawn to movies that are part of a series or larger collection of works; I guess I like to delve deeper into the world created by a filmmaker or writer than just 2 hours will allow. Thus, I dig the Star Wars original trilogy and prequel trilogy, all of the Star Trek films (though I'm nervous about what J.J. Abrams will do to the franchise with number 11), Lord of the Rings extended trilogy. I also really like The Nighmare Before Christmas, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Short Circuit, and a whole lot more.

My musical tastes are pretty eclectic. Play me anything that was on the pop radio stations between 1995 and 2000, and I will know every word and insist on singing along. Not terribly into country, to be honest. Was given an early appreciation for rock music by my parents (born in '50 and '65, so each with their own rock niches), but I forsook rock for pop in my teens. During high school, I developed my taste for showtunes, like Phantom of the Opera, My Fair Lady, Jesus Christ Superstar, Chicago, Avenue Q, Rent, and more. That continued during college, but I started to return to my roots in rock as well, rediscovering my appreciation for Pink Floyd, Foo Fighters, Credence Clearwater Revival, Guns 'n' Roses, Metallica, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Tom Petty, etc., etc.

In short, put any music in front of me, I'll give it a listen without prejudice (unless it's country; I'll still listen, but I'll have an initial bias against).

The six things I could never do without

1. My family, who are my foundation.

2. My friends, who are an extension of #1, but tend to challenge me to be more and to do more.

3. Love, which is obvious.

4. My computer, which is pathetic. :)

5. A creative outlet, like theater or design.

6. Sweater-vests. Love 'em!

I spend a lot of time thinking about

...what it means that where I am in life is not where I planned to be. Not that it's bad, just that it's different.

...whether love really is what music and poets make it out to be--all destiny and perfection--or if it's just a matter of enjoying someone's company enough to stick it out and work through the hard parts.

...how to make my mathematical, logical mind play nice with my empathetic, emotional mind. They are both pretty strong, and when they conflict, it's bad news.

On a typical Friday night I am

...probably hanging out with a couple of friends, maybe just at home or maybe out at a small bar or cafe. If I were still in Connecticut, my answer would be "...dancing!" I love to dance, but not the type of dance that goes on in clubs. I like to swing; I like to salsa; I like to waltz. I know of nowhere to engage in these activities here, yet.

You should message me if

...you're interested in getting to know a warm-hearted fella with a good head on his shoulders.
