I am intelligent, fun, and laid back.

My Self-Summary

I love the arts - sculpture, music, literature, plays, etc. I love space and form - interesting buildings, a clearing in the woods, or the vast arc of the ocean. I love science and math - for a while I was going to school for bio-chemistry and was infatuated with the intricate beauty of it. I am excited about architecture and technology. I love being outdoors. I am a voracious reader and have a soft spot for free verse poetry and e.e. cummings. I love swimming and hiking. I love traveling and seeing new places. I have a weakness for science fiction and video games. I love creating something new from the ground up, and restoring broken things.

What I’m doing with my life

I am currently head of media and IT for a local art and craft supply company. Mainly I shoot videos and record audio for radio shows, as well as working on our servers and network and doing random jobs arround the office. I work a lot of hours but love it.

I am a full time student with about 4 months left to finish my Bachelors in Business with a major in marketing. I plan to go for a Masters in Architecture next.

I am starting to get back into real estate investing on the side. I love taking something no one wants to live in and making it an environment that people gravitate to.

I am also a father although I only have my son part of the week.

I’m really good at

Learning new things quickly, staying calm and being laid back. Getting along with new people, and making friends. Writing and reading. Creating music and art. Fixing things and figuring out how they work. Listening to people and understanding their perspective. Getting lost. Exploring. Trying new things.

The first things people usually notice about me

I have no idea...

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

Books:
I love free verse poetry, textbooks on fascinating subjects, fiction with complicated situations and flawed subjects. I love books that are heady and change your view of the world slightly or offer a perspective you never thought of. Guilty Pleasure: Sci-Fi

Movies:
I love the Wes Anderson movies and other quirky pseudo indie films such as I Heart Huckabees. Action and Sci Fi movies rock. I dont generally like horror movies but I love zombie movies. Guilty Pleasures: HUGE romantic comedy fan (I have seen waaay too many) and I love Kung Fu movies. I don't own a TV. I LOOOOVE Monty Python.

Music:
I love local music and used to be at local shows every week. (I used to be the head of a local arts non-profit that with worked with local artists and musicians). I listen to every genre of music - I jump around a lot from genre to genre based on my mood. I am a big fan of jazz and indie right now but also listen to a lot of folk, electronic, heavy metal, etc.

Food:
I like food. Seafood is awesome and I love fresh veggies. I love to make up new dishes as I cook - which has occasionally has not worked out so well, and sometimes has been great. I am not a picky eater - the only things I don't really like are celery and anise.

The six things I could never do without

My Life - the mere existence of life is pretty amazing when you consider the massive number of bio-chemical reactions that happen every second just to keep us moving and thinking. There are a lot of amazing things in the world and I am excited to be able to experience them. I am not a religious person (in fact I am an atheist and have been for a long time) but that doesn't make life any less precious or awesome. In addition, I may not have a perfect life (no one does) but I am trying my best and am enjoying it. Too many people just sort of go through the motions of life without really examining themselves or enjoying it - I try to do both.

My Friends - I have a few very close friends that I know I can always count on no matter what. I am a really loyal and considerate person, sometimes too much so, and having that returned by others always make me feel like a better person. I may not agree with all of my friends on political, religious, or other contentious views but I am always interested in their viewpoints and ideas. I don't have to have others in my life to survive and currently spend a lot of time by myself but am not a loner. I am not a social butterfly either - I don't have hundreds of casual acquaintances and I am not looking for one night stands.

My Outlook and Personality - I have been through a lot and emerged the better for it. I am laid back but have am also very solid which allows me to turn bad experiences into positive changes in myself. I like to think I am a very balanced person in many aspects - I am calm but passionate, I like riding Harley's and used to spar in no holds barred MMA matches in my spare time. At the same time I like gardening and I love really camping (where you have to hike in for an hour) and going to the Tucson MOCA for a new contemporary art exhibit (well not right now obviously but when they open their cool new firehouse gallery in December). I play video games and do my own roofing repairs. I feel happy with who I am (although I am working on losing a few more pounds) and, while I probably work too hard, am happy with my life.

My Son - I have a three year old boy and he is awesome. I have him about half the week and he is very laid back but intelligent. I like to think he got it from me :)

My pets: I have a little white fluffy dog named Leo whom my friends mercilessly pick on me for and an older cat that looks like she went a little crazy with the eyeliner name Cleo. Yes I regret naming them so similarly.

I'm not sure what's next; the internet? I love being outdoors and such but have gotten horribly spoiled by smart phones with internet access allowing us to logon from anywhere. Ok so I can do without it but I feel kinda naked when I do.

I spend a lot of time thinking about

How things work and the nature of reality (perception, consciousness, etc) - it sounds kind of 'douchebagtastic' even to type but I find it hard not to dwell on that kind of stuff. Lately I have been pondering a lot how our current civilization will look to the next few generations or even those hundreds of years from now. I am absentminded and get distracted pretty easily so I am constantly reminding myself of what I have to do to day - what I am going to do when I finish that, etc. I tend to get a problem stuck in my head and until I solve it I cant get rid of it - I wake up at night thinking about how to fix something that broke at work, that kind of thing.

On a typical Friday night I am

Working? I have a fairly flexible schedule but unless I make plans ahead of time I end up working most Friday nights. Some nights I just want to curl up in a hammock outside and read, other times I wish I could go hiking in the middle of nowhere or go to a concert.
