I am analytical, inventive, and playful.

My Self-Summary

I'm three parts mad scientist, two parts normal scientist, one part two-century-too-late-in-a-different-country Royal Navy Officer, two parts Mal Reynolds (Captain from Firefly), and two parts uniquely me.

I would like to eventually live in an old house with a big workshop / laboratory, and am quite willing to share the workbench. If that doesn't work out, an old wooden boat sailing off to parts unknown is an acceptable alternative.

I like to question established thought processes. That doesn't mean I'm randomly rebellious necessarily, merely I like to understand the world around me. The things I believe are the most important in life I prefer to satirize the most. I've learned if you're not willing to laugh at something, you're likely not ready to objectively examine it and grow from the experience.

I have a thing for brains...not in a zombie like way, but I'm really looking for someone intelligent, who can think for herself. I really don't know if I like someone until I talk with them one on one, and find out what they really're like.

What I’m doing with my life

I'm an odd mix of sailor and scientist. I'm going between stints out at sea and on land, hopefully working on my advanced degree in oceanography soon. (My specialization within oceanography will likely depend on what's needed at work and where training money is.) In the long, long term I'd like to retire to a professorship related to oceanography, living as the eccentric old professor on the hill.

I’m really good at

Science, analysis, problem solving, tinkering, experimenting, raising eyebrows.

The first things people usually notice about me

He's quiet (at first). He's a deep thinker. ...he's not as naive as he appears...

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

Books / Stories: Sherlock Holmes (Cannon and radio shows), H.P. Lovecraft short stories, Vonnegut (short stories), Kafka (except the Metamorphosis! ugh), Hitchiker's Guide to the Galaxy, Song of Solomon (who would'a guessed...erotic poetry, in the old testament!)

TV: What does it say that most of my favorite TV shows are British or cancelled....Firefly, ALF, M*A*S*H (plus the * are fun to type), 'Allo 'Allo, Dad's Army, Hogan's Heros, Muppet Related TV and Movies, Star Trek (Most of em), Are You Being Served?, Black Adder, Mr. Bean

Music: Eclectic, most of my music is 70s and 80s rock I got free with my record player... Select classical, bluegrass, but not country.

The six things I could never do without

1. The peculiarly perfect placement and dynamics of the earth among the rest of the universe.

2. Water and the curious ways it likes to move.(Oceanography gets boring without it)

3. Boats! (Big Boats, Small Boats, some as big as your head...Sail boats, power boats, model boats, bannana boats, old big car boats...)

4. A good workbench / laboratory

5. Books - I designed a dream house years back for fun...the living room had two-story bookshelves, and I realized I forgot a place for a TV...

6. I'll get back to this one... OH! I know: Ellipsis (...) because my thoughts always trail off to run in the back of my mind while I'm working on other things. It's handy for problem solving, annoying for the nerves.

I spend a lot of time thinking about

How people interact with the rest of existance. It's amazing how so many people seem to be asleep, aware only of their immediate needs and wants, completely oblivious to the bigger pictures of 1) community and 2) Humanity's interactions, responses to the world and beyond. I like to think about why I think the way I do, why people respond the way they do, &c. It's amazing how simply so many of our behaviours can be modeled...

On a typical Friday night I am

Knee deep in some project, spare watch parts or similar fallout sprung across my workbench / floor. The TV's on PBS (If I have one where I'm at), but I'm only overhearing parts of the program. I have my goggles propped up on my forehead, not because they do anything special there, they just get me in the tinkering mindset.

The most private thing I’m willing to admit here

Wouldn't it be more fun for you to find out...there's plenty to know. It's very hard to annoy me, so ask!

I don't really have a big desire for alcohol. I'll drink it from time to time, nothing against it, just don't have a major drive for it.

You should message me if

You're quirky enough to find any of the above amusing!

If it shows I haven't logged in in a while, it's probably because I'm at sea, I'll be back!
