Who am I?

I'm confident, smart, funny, educated, honest, sincere, kind, emotionally stable, physically affectionate, with no children, ex-wives, or ex-girlfriend drama.

I'm a typical guy in a lot of ways... I like sports, but am not a fanatic. I like video games, but don't spend my life playing them. I'm mechanically capable, but it's not where I like to spend my free time. I'm a bit of a geek, but I'm finding that being a bit of a geek is pretty mainstream these days. If you want details... just ask.

I'm not the easiest guy to get to know - my fault more often than not, and its not always easy to get through the armor and in all the way.

What I’m doing with my life

"The point of the journey is not to arrive." I try and live a life that I enjoy and am happy to share with others.

I'm relatively recently (about a year or so ago) done with a 5 year job adventure that had me traveling 4 days a week. I'm still trying to find a good balance with all of my free time these days.

My new job is reasonably close, secure, pays reasonably well, and I'm having fun with it. It's 8 to 4 and I love the hours as much as it's possible to love having to work every day.

My job is not my passion. I'm extremely good at what I do, but it's not what I want to do with the rest of my life. I'll let you know when I figure out what that is.

I’m really good at

I'm really good at lots of things, but not necessarily excellent at anything other than being myself.

I'm a good friend, a good man, and good for a laugh. Even if it's at my own expense. :)

The first things people usually notice about me

I'm big. 6'3, broad shoulders, solidly constructed. Oh, and I'm bald.

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

I tend to read... a lot. I'm only slightly behind my book-a-week goal for this year, and that because I started with 800 page monsters instead of the typical 400 page books you usually find in the stuff that I read most. That would be science fiction and fantasy. My current favorite authors are Brent Weeks, David Drake, Michael Z. Williamson, and Brandon Sanderson. For heavier reading, I throw in a fair bit of history and philosophy as well.

I'm not a huge movie or TV person, but I like action movies more than dramas, comedies more than horror, but can appreciate just about any quality film. Some of my favorites are Pulp Fiction, Saving Private Ryan, and Boondock Saints. My favorite TV series (the only one that I own on DVD) is Burn Notice

My musical tastes are eclectic. I have at least a little bit of everything, but tend towards 80's music, Rock, and Alternative. A few of my favorites are Rush, The Killers, and Depeche Mode.

I'm just about as diverse in my food tastes as I am in my other interests. Sushi, Thai Food, Pizza and Hot Dogs all run high on my list of favorites.

The six things I could never do without

Instead of a list, I'm going to tell you why I'm generally content with my life.

I've got great friends, a better family than I deserve, all the material things that I really want in life, and I'm not really attached to any of the material goods. I'm happy with who I am, and that's generally enough.

I spend a lot of time thinking about

Random things. One of the reasons that I read so much is that it's one of the few ways that I can shut my brain off. At any given moment, if you ask me what I'm thinking, you're very likely to get an answer of "I don't know", not because I don't, but because there's too much going on to articulate. Or you might get a stream of consciousness monologue about a single topic because one of the spinning wheels has come to a stop and its hamster is delivering the detailed report.

On a typical Friday night I am

Doing something.

I could be out with friends, out to see a movie, reading a book, at a party somewhere, out to dinner with friends or family, playing games, or pretty much anything... I don't have a regular schedule. You aren't likely to find me hanging out in the bar though. Been there, done that, got bored. Exceptions made for good company, of course.

The most private thing I’m willing to admit here

I haven't got anything to hide. You want to know something, just ask. But that's the superficial details. I'd like to think that there's a lot more to me than questions will ever answer.
