Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
As the years have gone by, I have become kinder to myself and more
tolerant of others. Expectations are only resentments in the
making. I've had some heart break but it has only given me more
strength, understanding, and compassion for others. I know the joy
of being imperfect and appreciating that same imperfection in
others--knowing it is what make us all unique. I find it easier to
be positive about life, perhaps because there are fewer years ahead
of me than behind me. I think I've gotten past most of the
would've, could've, should've's of life. I'm ready for a
relationship filled with warmth, laughter, and bringing the best of
my life to another person and receiving the same in return.
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
After four and a half years in retirement, I got enticed back to
work part time as the Mental Health Director for a large health
plan that services Medi-Cal clients in 14 northern CA counties.
Lots of responsibility but a great work environment and something
I've been missing--a paycheck! I would love to find a partner who
also works part time in retirement.
I still have plenty of time to enjoy my two young granddaughters
nearby and two older grandsons who live in Oregon. I am active at
my church (Presbyterian) and enjoy my long-term commitment to
12-step programs for my own growth and recovery. I am respectful of
religious and philosophical views different than mine.
I love car racing and auto and airplane shows, and enjoy exploring
Bay Area back roads--nothing better than a drive somewhere new and
discovering the perfect little cafe and an interesting local
museum. I've been hankering after a sports car but recently, in
deference to having a back seat for the granddaughters, bought an
Alien II Green Kia Soul. Very fun and c'est moi!
I am also a writer of fiction and just published my second novel
MOTHER TONGUE--a suspense story set in the midst of the often
violent separatist movement in Corsica. I have just been asked to
submit the novel for The American Library in Paris Annual Book
Award--since it is a novel written in English about France. $5000
and a trip to Paris for the winner. But I'd love to be just a
I enjoy watching BBC shows, especially crime, detective, and spy
dramas, WWII dramas, and their spectacular costumers of course.
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
I believe I have been a good Mom to my two children and am a much
loved grandparent. I am a good writer (my author website can be
found at karenstephen.com) and am enjoying doing more in the whole
social media world (@docflamingo on Twitter) to market my novels. I
play the harpsichord well. I'm a good listener--hey, I was a
professional for 40 years but I don't "analyze" anyone! I
absolutely love participating in new adventures with the man in my
life and inviting him to share mine.
The first things people usually notice about me

Green eyes, blonde hair with very little gray, which along with
good skin and few wrinkles (all inherited) leads to a much younger
appearance, and an easy smile.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Help your potential matches find common interests.
Love Mediterranean and French food. My movie favorites are French
films, especially Catherine Deneuve (would love to be just half as
elegant). TV mostly BBC dramas like MI-5, Prime Suspect with Helen
Mirrin, Midsomer Murders, and all the period pieces like The
Tudors. I also have enjoyed shows like The Voice. And my guilty
pleasure is watching Overhaulin' and Wheeler Dealers (love those
makeovers--makes me wish I still had my 1959 Mercedes Benz 190SL).
Because I play the harpsichord, I love Bach and other Early Music
but also am fond of musicals, soft rock, Golden Oldies, Elvis
The six things I could never do without
Think outside the box. Sometimes the little things can say a lot.
My faith in my higher power and figuring out what His plan is for
me in this life. My children and grandchildren. My best friends. My
faith community. Time for reflection each day. Laughter.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Global warming, lunch, or your next vacation… it’s all fair game.
Why they never let girls take auto shop back in the 50s!
On a typical Friday night I am
Netflix and takeout, or getting your party on — how do you let loose?
Winding down and looking forward to time for myself and the
opportunity to see friends on the weekend.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit

my public life, things I'm willing to share with anyone who asks.
The private side is there, waiting for that special person, someone
