My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
I'm an emotional and sentimental person that wears her heart on her sleeve and sucks at lying, and I'm cool with that, I wouldn't want to be any other way. I prefer laughing to crying, but sometimes having a good cry is important. I like to share things and get others interested in new stuff.

I'm on the smarter end of the spectrum but am not always as articulate as I'd like to be. I'm a very literal thinker, which I find limiting sometimes. I think hate is overrated, but irritation happens. Still, I'm accepting of a lot of things, because the world is filled with all different types and that's what makes it interesting.

I love Japan and its culture, and most of my pop culture interests lie there. Note: very into pop culture. Very.

I'm not what someone could consider 'normal', but I think the word 'normal' is really difficult to apply to anyone. Maybe saying I'm not mainstream would be better, but I like things that are mainstream too. I just like what I like, and I know I'm different, and that's okay. I don't want to fit into anyone's mold but my own.
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
I've moved home to America from Japan, after five years of living there. I'm now interning with a literary agency, working at a children's bookstore, doing a lot of babysitting, tutoring Japanese, and working at a Japanese restaurant. I'm a li'l bit busy, but it's great.
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
giving people the benefit of the doubt, and not being judgmental. I like all kinds of people from all walks of life, and I don't like fitting things into boxes.

I'm good at being optimistic! But also realistic.

I'm also good at reading maps and not getting lost, making friends of all ages, and staying in bed for a long time. I don't scream at spiders. I'm also good at grammar and spelling, and I've mostly learned to keep my mouth shut when people make mistakes, but I notice them. Don't get me started on the difference between less and fewer.

I'm a lover of books and music. I almost exclusively read YA and fantasy, though some other things have sneaked their way in to my library.

Musically I listen to a lot of Japanese music: Arashi, Kokia, Koda Kumi, Perfume, etc. Ninety nine times out of a hundred, I'm listening to a female vocalist, but there are some exceptions, like Rob Thomas and Adam Lambert. Genres I like include dance-pop, hip-pop, Celtic, and whatever genre Utada is. But there are songs outside of those genres that get to me, too.

Movies: Groundhog Day, Strictly Ballroom, Sen to Chihiro no Kamikakushi (aka Spirited Away), Soap Dish, Princess Bride, GANTZ, The Secret World of Arrietty, just about anything that makes me feel sentimental. I've seen a lot more movies than I remember, because I don't generally consider myself a movie person even though I have a lot of fun watching them.

Yes, I love anime, but only the ones that live up to my high standards. Not going to lie, it's hard to do. Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood, Eden of the East, Ouran High School Host Club, and Hyouka are on the top of my list right now.

I watch a lot of Japanese dramas, too: Ryusei no Kizuna, Kagi no Kakatta Heya, Stand Up!!, Densha Otoko, and Lucky Seven, to name a few.

I also like So You Think You Can Dance and Project Runway.

Japanese. Surprise! Takoyaki, okonomiyaki, shabushabu, oyakodon, yakitori, yakiniku, monja... it's pretty much all delicious. Only thing I don't like much is tempura.
Lots of kinds of cheese, pesto pasta, garlic, most fruits excepting bananas (ugh) melons (ugh) and grapefruits (aksjgkjasdf ugh), artichokes, fish, salads.
The six things I could never do without
Think outside the box. Sometimes the little things can say a lot.
1. People I can talk to.
2. My computer.
3. Booksbooksbooks.
4. Music.
5. My sense of self.
6. Good food.
On a typical Friday night I am
Netflix and takeout, or getting your party on — how do you let loose?
Honestly? At home on the computer. I am such a nerd. But if I have plans I happily go out and do them, so!
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
I'm a perv. Really, I am. But I have to be comfortable with someone before I can be open about it.

I'd really like to get to know people who are open to all facets of Japanese pop culture, since that's where my primary interests lie.

I like guys who are secure in their sensitivities, so they're not going to go judgmental or try to squish things into gender roles. It's okay to like My Little Ponies or things with gay romance in them.

I also like people who are good at communicating, are a little nerdy (clearly, as I am nerdy), but just generally want to have a good time. Guys who understand feminism are also A++++.
