I am nerdy, honest, and optimistic.
My Self-Summary
My name is Mira, short for Miranda. I'm an original Okie from
Muskogee (though I got out of that place ages ago), two years away
from my degree. I'm honest, optimistic, random, and frankly...I'm a
nerd. I'm also open-minded and (yes I know everyone says this) laid
back. I am anti-drama. It drives me mad, and I tend to avoid it
when I can.
My friends and my family are extremely important to me. They are my
support system when I need it. I don't know what I would do without
them both when things get rough and when things are good.
I like to read (books,
comicbooks, whatever catches my
fancy), watch
movies, and marathon TV series that have
come out on DVD. I also like to go out and have a good time, be it
at a party or concert or something similar.
I love
camping,
hiking, swimming,
and playing frisbee (even though I fail dismally at the
latter).
I love
learning.
I think that's why I am aiming to be in a profession where I am
constantly learning new things. I hate feeling like I am
intellectually stagnating.
What I’m doing with my life
I am working, going to school, and just living my life. I work at a
clothing store, Lane Bryant, and go to school at OU (University of
Oklahoma for any non-Okies/Texans reading this). I am two years
away from a degree in Anthropology with a specific focus on
archaeology and biological anthropology.
I’m really good at
Cooking a number of things (though I'm admittedly bad at cooking a
number of other things), procrastinating, car dancing, singing
poorly to every song on the radio, listening, giving hugs, finding
ways to scare myself, and plunking around on instruments like I
know what I am doing.
The first things people usually notice about me
I've been told most frequently my smile or my eyes.
Really you'd just have to ask other people...or ask yourself. What
did you notice about me first?
My favorite books, movies, music, and food
I couldn't pick an absolute favorite book to save my life, but here
are some of my favorites: Dracula, Mother of Pearl, Kim Harrison's
Rachel Morgan series, Pride & Prejudice & Zombies, The
Hobbit & Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter, War of the Worlds,
The Invisible Man, The Count of Monte Cristo, One Flew Over the
Cuckoo's Nest, 1984, Animal Farm, Timequake, Cat's Cradle, There
are No Children Here, The Spirit Catches You and You Fall Down, In
the Shadow of Man, Nisa: The Life and Words of !Kung Woman, Cold
Mountain, Memoirs of a Geisha, The Wheel of Time series,
Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, The Education of Little Tree,
most of the works of Shakespeare I have read so far...the list goes
on.
Movie wise...it's about the same as books. A selection of
favorites: Dead Poet Society, What Dreams May Come, pretty much any
Disney/Pixar/Miyazaki movie...there are very few I don't like, Good
Will Hunting, Memoirs of a Geisha, Simon Birch, The Hole, The
Breakfast Club, Children of Men, 28 Days Later, Lord of the Rings,
original Star Wars trilogy, Watchmen, V for Vendetta, Batman
Begins, The Dark Knight, Iron Man, The Incredible Hulk, American
History X, Tim Burton films...all of them, spaghetti westerns, over
the top cheesy horror films, Steel Magnolias, Divine Secrets of the
Ya-Ya Sisterhood, The Notebook, Whip It...
As far as music goes, I am an eclectic. My favorite genres, though,
are classic rock, alt rock, folk, and blues. As far as picking
favorite musicians/bands...well...once more I give you a small
sampling of my favorite artists: A Perfect Circle, Tom Waits,
Townes Van Zandt, Emmylou Harris, Tool, Jeff Buckley, Tom Petty
& the Heartbreakers, Bonnie Raitt, Melissa Etheridge, Santana,
The Eagles, The Beatles, Incubus, The Goo Goo Dolls, Foo Fighters,
The Wallflowers, Allman Brothers, Coheed & Cambria, Billy Joel,
Blues Traveler, Johnny Cash, David Bowie, Glasvegas, The Guess Who,
Ludo, Neko Case, Miranda Lambert, Simon & Garfunkel, Pearl Jam,
Steve Miller Band, Stone Temple Pilots, Three Dog Night...and many
more. I love music.
My favorite foods are: Thai, Mexican, Italian, sushi, apples,
mushrooms, and bread.
The six things I could never do without
The essentials. Food, shelter, air to breathe, water to drink, and
a big pointy stick to fend off monsters...okay not really on that
last one, but it could come in handy after the apocalyptic
destruction of society as we know it.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
I think about the big questions a lot. Death, love, life, where
socks go when they disappear from the drier...you know. Important
things. I think about the impending zombie apocalypse and spend at
least some of my time entertaining thoughts of what my different
escape routes and survival tactics would be...(I mentioned the
whole "I'm a nerd" thing, right?)
On a typical Friday night I am
Friday night, Friday night...Hmm...Well I could be doing a number
of things. At a party, at work, at home...it really just depends on
the week, the month, and how many school assignments I have put off
until the last minute. Really it just depends. My Friday nights are
flexible.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit here
I don't know how to ride a bike or roller skate. I don't like
having mirrors in my bedroom. They freak me out. I can't sleep with
a door open, be it the bedroom door or the closet door.
You should message me if
You want someone to talk to. I make a damn good friend.
And really? If you want to. I love talking to new people.
I also need friends who will go to amusement parks with me and do
all the cheesy stuff and ride all the rides with me. Yes all of
them.
