I am perceptive, deluded, and intrigued.

My Self-Summary

I’m a middle child so I’m full of contradictions. Among my sisters I’m the responsible, organized, rational one. Among some of my friends I’m the scatterbrained cute-and-clumsy one. Some think I’m quiet, some think I’m a loudmouth. My mother thinks I’m the greatest thing that ever happened.

I’ve left phone chargers behind in hotel rooms all around the world. I frequently re-enter my house a minute after leaving it. I often walk in the wrong direction when I leave a store or restaurant. These are issues I’ve been working to improve, and I’ve gotten better over the years, but you will likely find an umbrella or still-warm doggie-bag at a restaurant I just left.

I’ve lived, in chronological order, in Boston, New Jersey, Ann Arbor, Paris, Tel Aviv, Las Vegas, and now Brooklyn. I’m happy to be here and plan to stay for a while.

In my life I have generally focused on things involving words: writing poetry, teaching English as a foreign language, and editing books. Please treat your apostrophes with respect.

Some other things I like are music, strangers, animals, trees, and avocados.

I’m not religious per se but I have personal/sentimental attachments to Judaism and I like the holidays.

What I’m doing with my life

Editing/developing books that help people learn English. Trying to find time to write creatively. Exploring my new home (Brooklyn).

I’m really good at

Talking and listening, writing, reading, grammar, planning trips, eating yummy things. Pretty good at Rock Band, too.

The first things people usually notice about me

My hair?

Some of my favorite poets are Sharon Olds, Bob Hicok, and Billy Collins.

Movies: Capote, the Lives of Others, The Life Aquatic, Lost in Translation, Office Space, My Cousin Vinny, the Wizard of Oz, Labyrinth

Music: indie, electronica, etc. Some examples: Modest Mouse, Wolf Parade, TV On the Radio, Neko Case, Band of Horses, Muse, Scissor Sisters, David Bowie, the Smiths

Food: hummous, cheese, bread, avocados, fresh fruit, pasta, desserts, burritos, Indian, Japanese, Thai, Middle Eastern

The six things I could never do without

I spend a lot of time thinking about

Things I ought to do, ideas I don't agree with, what I'm going to eat next

On a typical Friday night I am

Doing something cool, or something slightly less cool. Often involving music.

The most private thing I’m willing to admit here

I know all the words to "Shoop" by Salt n' Peppa.

You should message me if

you like conversations.

Bonus points if your profile does not contain the following phrases:
-"easygoing" or "passionate about life"
(I'm sorry, but who's going to describe him/herself as uptight and bitter about life? Hence the lack of information this actually says about you.)
-"I can't sum myself up in a box"
(Hey, it's not easy, but here you are so shut up and deal with it.)
-"I'm funny"
(A classic case of show-don't-tell.)
