My self-summary
I like to push myself both intellectually and physically.

I'm half power nerd and half bad mambajamba.

I love to travel. I've been fortunate to see most of this country--by motorcycle, automobile, and most recently bicycle--and to visit many others.

I was a rock and roll star in my own mind when I was younger, although I did get to tour and play in front of thousands. I still play and record music.

I have a very loud laugh and I'm not afraid to use it.

I will regret some things that I've done, but that's ok; I'll err on the side of doing everything so I never regret things I wanted to do but didn't.

I am a tee shirt and jeans guy, but I clean up real nice.

I am looking for a partner in crime.

I am not good at describing myself in a list of three items.
What I’m doing with my life
I recently moved back to the Bay Area after completing a 13-year academic journey that's taken me from community college to UC Berkeley to MIT for an engineering PhD (I dropped out of high school--but that's a whole different story).

Refusing to work for anyone else ever again; I am a cofounder of a tech startup.
I’m really good at
Anything I devote myself to learning. Working hard. Playing hard. Laughing at myself and others when we take ourselves too seriously.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Books: "Genius," by Gleick about the life and times of the late great physicist Richard Feynman; "Burst," by Barabasi about the activity patterns underlying human behavior; The Feynman lectures on Physics; any and all biographies about interesting people.

Movies: pretty much anything by wes anderson, david lynch, david fincher, terry gilliam, dario argento, the coen brothers, ron howard, coppola--francis ford and sophia, peter jackson, wim wenders etc. I am a sucker for cheesy science fiction (tron, flash gordon), pee-your-pants comedies (think office space), and documentaries.

TV: Dexter, Breaking Bad, Game of Thrones, (I did say half-power nerd did I not?) Mad Men, House of Lies, Californication

Food: yes please (the more complex the better).

I am music obsessed. A day in the life might include songs by blonde redhead, wolf parade, phillip glass, david bowie, pj harvey, nick cave and the bad seeds, the birthday party, roland s. howard, neko case, nina simone, crime and the city solution, johnny cash, bob dylan, new york dolls, old motley crue, isan, gbh, the clash, elliot smith, nick drake, david bowie, neutral milk hotel, circle jerks, kyuss, rolling stones, wilco, pixies, marvin gaye, arvo part, the cure, queen, acdc, jane's addiction, talking heads, bach, rachels, and on and on....
