Hey there, I'm Mike. I'm currently in Pittsburgh for medical school, and have a couple more years here in purgatory. I'm an easy-going, fun-loving guy who's in constant search of new ways to feel alive.

I love music. I love listening to it, playing it, writing it, and going to concerts. Music can transport me to the most amazing places. I'm into all genres (except for country) from jazz to electronic, rock, indie, soul, and even the really, really weird. I studied music in college and still play guitar regularly. I try to take advantage of my short fits of creativity to occasionally write and record.

I'm a pretty big geek. If it's about science, I'm almost immediately engrossed. I've had some great memories watching shows about supernovae and black holes late at night on the Discovery channel. Video games, while taking up less of my life recently, are still a part of my geekiness. They're usually ones with interesting storylines or atmosphere, e.g. Mass Effect.

Although I haven't been able to do so very much recently, I enjoy traveling. The new experiences, the new people, even the just the feel of a foreign world are all fascinating.

I've been in Pittsburgh for the past couple of years for medical school, and am currently taking a year for research and a master's degree. For the most part, I'm focusing on enjoying life as much as I can.

Making people feel at ease when they're around me. I've been told that I'm a good stabilizing force in my circle of friends.

My "super-serious face". Apparently I always look like I'm very serious, but that impression usually goes away once people start talking to me and see that I'm quite friendly.

Books: Anything sci-fi. I have particularly fond memories of Ender's Game, Hyperion and the Otherland books. Along more traditional lines, Hemingway is awesome.

If I were a superhero, what my super power would be. Running away and becoming a professional musician. Practicing medicine across the world once I finally get to be a doctor.

Usually out with friends. Sometimes I stay in and just play guitar or lie back and listen to music.
