My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
I've been in NYC since '95. Though, I still hold onto my small town manners and sense of personal space. Not sure if that makes me a New Yorker yet. But, this town is the only place I'd call home.

I joke around a lot. Usually, badly but, sometimes, with a touch of sophistication. Though, I'm not above a good poop joke. My sense of humor ranges from the completely innocent to some of the worst things you can imagine. I often write (or communicate digitally) as I'd speak, forgetting that sarcasm and tone of voice usually don't translate in well in written text.

Still, I try to do the right thing whenever I can. I pride myself on honesty and keeping my word. And, I tend to rescue stray kittens whenever I find them.

As for work, I make magical things happen with moving pictures.

Side note:
It's been pointed out that some other fellas have literally copy-pasted my profile answers into theirs. Fun.

Some guy by the handle "webbyluv" was one of them. Unless he's blocked me, I think he may be gone, though.
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
I am always in pursuit of self-improvement. I can't seem to learn/read/see/listen to/experience enough.

Also, changing things up a bit with the career. I'd be happy to elaborate. So, just message me.
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
I could paint you a pretty picture, cook you an amazing dinner, or draw the shit out of you if you're willing to hold a pose on my coffee table...
The first things people usually notice about me
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
My habit of not shaving every day sometimes makes people compare me to Jason Statham or Guy Ritchie. I'm a touch more "beardy" at the moment. So, hard to say.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Help your potential matches find common interests.
Movies are like good dinners or music to me. It really depends on my mood and what phase I'm in. And, if I actually have the time to devote to it. But, lately, I keep going back to:
City of Lost Children. It blew my mind when I first saw it at the Angelika. Jeunet, Terry Gilliam, Tim Burton and (sometimes) Michel Gondry, all former animators, always have such an offbeat, darkly comical approach to their work that I fully appreciate. I'm also a big fan of sci-fi movies, animation, gigantic epics, etc. Much less a fan of "kitchen table indie movies" (those in which people endlessly talk about their feelings around a kitchen table).

For books, I've been absorbing a lot of them lately. Usually at work, while I'm polishing pixels, I manage to suck down a few in audio form. On the subway, I get a few more the old fashioned way... It's part work, part pleasure. The eternal pre-teen nerd in me has a soft spot for Young Adult sci-fi, fantasy and adventure stories. Philip Pullman's Golden Compass series is in heavy rotation. I also go through phases of re-reading the HP Lovecraft stories I loved when I was 15.

Music... Anything, really. I love being exposed to new things. But, I base my Spotify stations on bands like Múm, Sigur Ros, Chet Baker, Glasvegas, "I Love You But I've Chosen Darkness" (best band name ever). Arcade Fire, Silversun Pickups, Stars, Flaming Lips, my friends' bands. Chilly Gonzales, Bjork, Enik, DNTEL, Notwist. This is really just my current rotation. I could go on and on.
Just discovered "Hooray for Earth" (awful, awful name) and love 'em! It's a big sound, full of '80's style over the top romantic idealism. If you'd like to experience what it would sound like if Passion Pit had a baby with Depeche Mode, give 'em a try.

Food. Also, anything goes. I often revert back to a good ol' burger, preferably from Dumont (if you haven't been there, you must try it). Otherwise, I like to cook and invent new dishes. Combining ingredients, designing something based on smells, flavors and textures reminds me a lot of painting.
The six things I could never do without
Think outside the box. Sometimes the little things can say a lot.
I don't really like this question. It sort of rubs me the wrong way. If you've ever actually had to go "without" the things that make life easy at some point, you might understand what I mean.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Global warming, lunch, or your next vacation… it’s all fair game.
Higher dimensions, subjective vs. objective reality, debating myself on whether culinary courses, a blacksmithing course, or access to a wood shop makes more sense...

And, this:
On a typical Friday night I am
Netflix and takeout, or getting your party on — how do you let loose?
Usually in. Or, working on a deadline. Rarely out. Friday night bars and restaurants are pointlessly loud. Sometimes I forget it's Friday and wonder why it's so loud when I'm just trying to eat dinner.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
Hard for me to tell. I don't have many qualms about answering questions truthfully, openly and honestly. So, I'm much less "admitting" to something, more just plain old conversation.

Also, I don't think Darren Aronofsky is a good director. I think he gets mistaken for someone whose films have depth because he pushes the "make audience uncomfortable" button. And, I think he uses it as a cheap gimmick. There, I said it. I may get kicked out of Brooklyn if too many people find out.

But, I'm withholding judgement until after I see "The Wrestler" and "The Fountain." Until then, I think he blows. But, you can like him. And, we can still be friends.
You should message me if
Offer a few tips to help matches win you over.'re smart.

You're creative and feel a pang in your guts if you have to go for a stretch of time without expressing yourself. You write, paint, dance, etc. Artsy folks tend to view the world differently and, I'm always intrigued or inspired by them.

You'd enjoy sitting up late at night, chatting about your goals and dreams (please have them) and would be interested in mine.

You reserve judgment until you get to know someone. And, even then, you're patient.

You DON'T have "dislikes cats" next to 'pets' in your profile. Or "dislikes dogs" for that matter. I must admit, I inherently distrust anyone who is unable to empathize with either or both types of critter-companions.

You're optimistic but realistic. And, you're not bitter. Cynical, yes, bitter, no. And, cheerful more than down-trodden.

But, most of all, you're kind.

Also, if you're making duck-face in all (or most) of your pictures...
OR, if you've posted pictures of yourself holding "the royal dancer pose" on top of a South American pyramid, among Greek ruins, etc, I'd like an explanation.
