Don Quixiote. The alpha and the omega. Everything that has been done in a novel has been done in this one. A beautiful book full of humanity's greatest aspirations and humiliations, moving story telling. This is how the world works.

For those of you that think it is pretentious to list such an old novel. It is because you haven't read it. Edith Grossman's translation is simple, powerful, and direct. The funny parts are funny. It is the funniest book ever written. This is not like reading Joyce, Proust, Melville, or Milton. This is a book for the masses.

As for Love stories, There is only the Confederacy of Dunces. The story Ignatius Riley and Myrna Minx. Ladies, if you want to understand a man's heart, this is the book that you must read.
